WinAmp/Xolox Conflict

Hi:

I'm using Xolox 1.12 and WinAmp 2.76 there seems to be some sort of conflict. After running both together for maybe 10 minutes Windows 98 freezes up (even cursor wont move). Ctl-Alt-Delete is slow to respond but does work. This happen three times, I reboots twice. Seperately no problems, but together they crash.

I'm running Winamp V2.72 currently and Xolox 1.12 on a WinME box, no problem.
Hmm, how much RAM do you have? How much is free when running both apps? Maybe you can try MemTurbo, which is discussed in a older thread, does it help?

I have 256MB. How much is free when running both apps? Maybe you can try MemTurbo, which is discussed in a older thread, does it help?

76% - 74% of system resources. I changed the hardware acceleration for playback from minimum to maximum seems to have helped. Should of froze up by now. Hmmm... I going to see if I can find this TurboMem program, anyway just incase.

Thanks,
John

Spoke too soon. OS don't freeze up, but Xolox did. That's an improvement, but WinAmp wasn't running.

Confused,
John

How many MB of your RAM is free when running both apps? Maybe you can try MemTurbo, which is discussed in a older thread, does it help?

PS: Resource is not RAM. You will find MemTurbo with any search engine:

The following can explain what is happening, but its not verified

If you have a slow processor and a cable/dsl this explaination can be correct but not if you have a 1GHZ+ proc.

winamp is using cpu at regular intervall (many times each second) (a few cpu depending of the mp3 biterate and sound card)

If xolox use a lot cpu ( for example to respond to a search query while you are sharing thousand of files) it can prevent one or more winamp cycle to execute, in this case most of the time you will hear clicks or winamp stop, but it can maybe hang winamp or xolox.

the xolox code have to be interuptible, duration of an uninteruptible process should be limited.

using NT4/NT2000 may help because this operating system have a little better mutliprocess driver.

reducing bandwith in xolox may help too by reducing cpu usage.
