Default Freeze...

I am having trouble with XOLOX because it tends to freeze most of the time. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Maybe the problem is in your firewall, specifically ZoneAlarm.

To solve the problem, either exit ZoneAlarm while you are downloading or switch to a different firewall.

Sygate personal firewall works allright and you can download it from CNET (download.com).

NOTE: if you are using ZoneAlarm and want to uninstall it, visit its website for detailed uninstallation instructions. Don't just use add/remove program. Otherwise, you could crash your computer.

What's the problem with ZoneAlarm?

I'm using Xolox with ZoneAlarm and it seems ok.

Smile It's probably ZoneAlarm

I had the same exact problem. I have Windows ME and ZoneAlarm, and it locked up on me every time. I uninstalled Zonealarm using the uninstall in the program folder, then I went to the site (where it instructed me how to remove some system files that are removed in the uninstallation). I then downloaded the Sygate firewall, and now Xolox works perfectly! Haven't had a problem with it since. Not sure if it's some combination of Windows ME and Zonealarm or something else. I know someone else who had Windows 98 and Zonealarm and didn't have any problems running Xolox.

Exclamation zonealarm sucks

I use Tiny Personal Firewall which is available at www.tinysoftware.com

It's not as feature rich but it stealths ALL ports in and out. It's also certified by the gov. for use on U.S. Air Force computers. (Over 500,000 of them.) And it's also the core firewall engine that's now embedded in Windows XP! (Minus a few extras.)

Zone Alarm is fine under 2000. I'm using it with Xolox and Gnotella and haven't noticed a single fault related to Zone Alarm.

I have Tiny but haven't felt the need to install it.

Zone Alarm is fine under 2000!

I'm using ZA 2.6.231 and 2000 SP2 with all the Windows Update patches from the Micro$oft site and it works fine with Xolox 1.12.

I can and do leave it running all day with no problems. It doesn't use lots of memory and it doesn't leak. Memory usage never goes above 150MB regardless of how long it runs. That's total memory usage, including Xolox, OS and everything else that's running (WinAmp, D4, MBM5, UD, Explorer etc.).
