Angry Incorrrect File Size when completed

I downloaded a very large zip file. When finished the properties file size and the actual file size was a difference of 31 Megs. When I tried to unzip I received an error message and could not proceed. In essence Xolox thought it had completed the full file size but missed the mark. Major oversight.

I have in the past got that too.

get bearshare (Xolox wont do as it seems to split the files into chunks and also it needs a special file) and transfer the file to the downloaded area and continue the download. do this first as you need the data at the end of the zip file.

if after completion the file is still corrupt. hopefully you know where about the problem is??? i.e on winzip choose the test function for that zipped prog, eventually the FIRST error message will appear saying something like "crc 2345cb7a should be ffffffff", stop here and look at the screen and do not press anything.

You need to look at the status bar ont the right hand bottom of the screen. Count the blue blocks and the count the total number of blocks. Say there are 21 blue ones and the total is 25. So winzip found the problem 21 block of 25, therefore 20 blocks out of 26 are good. So now you know 80% of your file is good. All you now need to do is get rid of the last 20%.

Obtain hexedit (shaerware) and cut off the last 20%, transfer the file to the downloaded area again and continue the download.

Angry I had the same experience too...

xolox is, indeed, a good sharing program in that it allows searching and downloading to be so simple. but apparently, there's something wrong with the part of the programming that manages downloads or something...

I have had the same issue (CRC errors on about 80% of my files) I have started moving my files out of my download folder until I can test them, is this proper etiquette? If so, how can we encourage people to be sure to not leave garbage files in places where they will get downloaded?

Default ....

in my opinion, moving your files out of your download folder to check their activity is no sin. and for your question... how to encourage people to... no. i think you're asking a wrong question. there's no way you can surely encourage netizens to do whatever, really... (i say it's kind of a gray area because it's also a matter of ethics. and as you should know, there's often no sure answer to such an ethical issue.) you could try posting messages about it at Gnutella forum and places like that, but i SERIOUSLY doubt you will have any impact. so... just pray that netizens will become more thoughtful... or something. :-/ ...
