Ties up my internet

Let me say first I like this program I am new to its use but I like that I have been able to download files that limewire always died on but the last couple of days it seems to be screwing up it still works somewhat but while its working it will after a while tie up my connection to the internet so I can't do any thing else even thought its only using 8 K and I have a cable modem and when its doing this if I try to unload it it comes back with an error Exception ElnvalidPointer in module xolox.exe at 00027FC and most of the time I have to reboot my system
thanks
David

ps. I am running 98 SE with 400 mg memory

I get the same problem

This is a great program, but I have had to reboot every time I've used it *except the first time* . I'm not sure of the exact error. I too run a high end 98SE machine on a cable modem.
keep up the good work.

reboot

It will help the reboot problem if you close your searches before you shut down Xolox. Also defragging your HD will help you use fewer resources and make your Internet connection smoother.

reboot

I always close my searches after I start d/ling so thats not my problem

I found that the most likely place to crash XoloX when shutting down is when you are in transfer mode window.
Try to switch to another mode before closing XoloX.
Let me know if it worked. Will be investigated.

Same prob here. USing Win98 P3 190mb ADSL. It doesn't mather if i leave it alone or browse the internet. after x amount of time (20 min- 45min) my downloads stops and cannot browse any more (unable to...). when Stopping all running progs. dial in again lauch IE to ISP homepage unable to find.... message. Only when restarting the pc ( first do it through windows. Win exits and blocks. need to reset it manually.) it will work again. Any solutions? Is it Xolox bug or conflicts with other progs. Running other progs is fine just browsing and d\l not possible.

Changing tabs end closing search tabs still same problem. In otherwords always need to be around the pc each hour to check if its still working.

thanks

Help please!

jonjimgreg (above) explained my problem precisely.
After running XoloX for about 10-25 minutes (straight after booting, before I run anything else), my cable connection freezes. Then I try IE5, Mozila, Yahoo messenger, Outlook and anything else I can think of. These and other programs run fine but they can't access the Internet. I don't typically have a problem with these programs if I haven't run XoloX previously. Note that rebooting isn't our problem, but is annoyingly the only solution so far. Can you please help find a better one? I'm betting we all use ZoneAlarm, if that helps. And I recently installed Download Accelorator Plus and WinHTTrack, though these programs aren't running, not even in the tray, when this problem crops up. Also note that disconnecting the data and power from my cable modem, then reconnecting them after 5 minutes doesn't help.

Thanks so much
Steve

P.S. my config = win98se / PIII800 / 256MB

try this

I have seen this a number of times.
One problem is I believe related to the hostlist file.
If you have got a file from someone else then your ip
could be in there.
I have watched the incoming and outgoing tcp
connection to my ip starting up, usually Xolox has lost a
host and has checked for others in the list.

Sometime after this the local loop back excludes more and more
connections until even your isp does not think you are online
any more. ( Software login security I assume you have )
I just have to reconnect to my service provider and its fine again.

That is untill you hit your host again.
Therefore try changing the hostlist file for another.
In a post some months ago I believe the developers were going
to exclude using you own host when you come across it in the
hostlist file.

Still nothing.

To change host file i did this:
* Stop Xolox (even in taskbar!)
* Go into your Xolox directory and rename your old hostslist.txt to hostslistold.txt (use the Windows Explorer if needed to find and do this)
* Download a fresh hostslist.txt with your webbrowser, see above and click the underlined attachment, save it on disk.... on your desktop.
* Copy the hostslist.txt from the desktop into your Xolox directory.
* Now start Xolox....

Again after some time no connection working=> restart pc only solution.

Am patiently waiting untill then using direct connect (hate the requirements, I only have 8gb ofHD 0f wich max 4 gb to share)) and morpheus ( allright with mp3) at least good conection. Any suggestion till Xolos is functioning on my PC????? ;)

Unregistered October 30th, 2001 06:32 AM

confirmation

Sorry, do not know answers, but maybe more data about the problem will help you get solutions.

First I run also Win98 SE
I do not run zonealarm
Celeron 566, 192 MB, Kabelmodem

Several times got teh Execption EInvalidPointer in module xolox.exe at 000027FC Invalid Pointer operation.

after minimalize xolox window and then exit xolox icon.

Only thing possible, restart computer.

Hope there will come a bug fix.

Using Win2000 behind a Netgear router with cable modem my connection freezes immediately. No web browsing & system slows down heaps.
Hope there is a new version soon:)

I have the same problem.

=> Close all searches
=> Close Xolox (yeah yeah in the taskbar, too)
=> Receive error

It is every time the same procedure.... this sucks...
the proggy is cool but this bug sucks.
Developers: please fix it...

My config:
Win2k, ADSL (786/128), 906MB RAM, Athlon @ 1,4ghz

Possible Answer for Win9x users

I've had the same problem and it seems to be down to System Resources. Every now and then Xolox grabs a huge chunk of resources and if there aren't enough available it freezes the whole system. I thought it might a leak in the program but it isn't because the resources get released again after about 5 mins or so.

What you need to do is close down anything running in the background that you aren't actually using (like CDr software, seti@home, intellipoint software etc.) Get your resources up to at least 75% before launching Xolox. Oh yeah and don't leave it on the download screen for long periods either, that seems to make the problem worse for some reason. The number of downloads running might be part of this too I'm not sure, but i've managed to run three at once like this all day today.

Hope this helps

Same problem here
Cable modem running thru DLink DI-701 gateway firewall.
When I unplug the firewall and reconnect it works again.

However when my girlfriend want to use web on her system (sharing cable with dlink box) she cant so I have to disable it.
