Constant Upload Activity with Nothing in Transfer Window
 

I have noticed upon installing Xolox that it constantly uploads non-stop. Nothing appears in the transfer window as if no one is downloading anything from me. I am just getting started and don't have anything to upload yet so I can't imagine what could be uploaded? I thought it would quit and so I waited, once it go to over 20 MB in just a short while I shut it down. Days later I started the program and it did the same thing.. I stopped it again after about 20 MB of uploading. I do use Zone Alarm but it hasn't caused any problems on my system so far, resources look good and no errors. The data light on my cable modem stays almost solid and I can see my hard disk light blinking so I know data is actually being transmitted. My connection status box showed over 20 MB uploaded also. The connection status box reported a close figure to what Zone Alarm reported as uploaded. I have the newest version of Zone Alarm also. Any ideas? Xolox seems great so far, I just can hardly download anything because almost all of my bandwidth is taken up with .. something.. uploading that doesn't show up in the upload window. I tried throttling down the upload speed but it didn't make any difference. It acts like the data isn't even going through Xolox but yet it stops transmitting when the program is stopped. I'm stumped... Thanks in advance.

same exact problem. i run winxp, newest zone alarm, and constant upload, tho i have nothing. NOTHING. odd ey?

is it possible that xolox is uploading updates to other users and this is the cause of the constant uploading?

please be so kind and read at least something about Gnutella basics and the Gnutella protocoll, before complaining that you do not understand your windows firewall. Often explained:

Thanks for the link Moak, it was helpful. I searched a great deal before I posted my question and did not find an answer. I'm not some shmuck that is too lazy to look first, I just didn't find anything on it. I could have done without the remarks. By the way, it wasn't a question about my windows firewall. I just noted I was using ZA in case it was helpful. Thanks again for the link.

if zone alarm looks like the red and green are on full
boar then check your connections.
You may find that your ip is both a source and
destination ip routed through xolox.

Get the loop.
Try removing your ip from hostlist or get another host list.

I have posted this a few times before.
Does anyone disagree with me that this is possible.

I actually saw it happen before my very eyes.. I could
think of no other explanation for what I saw.

It would also eventually exclude all other network traffic
until my isp would logically sever my connection after not
receiving any response from my computer for some time.

Yes, Xolox sometimes connects to itself, bringing the computer speed to a crawl.
The easiest way to avoid this is to use an firewall program that is configurable and block all outgoing TCP requests by xolox to the local ip. (this is easy to do with tiny firewall)
