virus or something ? Evening All, has anyone found lately that files arnt what they are labelled up to be ? I have downloaded 3 different files lately and they have been totally different from their title. This is worrying as a lot of sick stuff could be hidden like this is this a virus or just a sick joke ? |
Hi! You can rename the files as you want... so I think its a joke... The mp3s and videos contain no viruses, its impossible... They need exe code! Morgwen |
Not very funny !! its a shame there are people out there who do not enter into the spirit of things after all freeloaders are a bad enough vice as it is ..... |
> Not very funny !! its a shame there are people out there who > do not enter into the spirit of things after all freeloaders are a > bad enough vice as it is ..... Sorry, didn't get that. Can someone translate to simple english, so that also bad english speaking speaking people like me can understand? |
Apologies old bean ! I was multi taking at the time, kidz tea time and a neighbour on the scrounge. What I was trying to say is that its bad enough that we have people freeloading and not sharing their files, but now we may have to contend with these practical jokers renaming their files ! |
Just do not expect that 100% people are nice and friendly... or can speak proper english. :) I wonder about strange renamed files too, but there is nothing you can do. At least when there are "naked pretty lesbians" in a file don't expect it. However most filenames (in MP3s or any not*******-content) are correct, any special problems I missed? |
An interesting point has just been raised , could this be an attempt by hackers to open up non firewalled systems , ie you try and download a popular file , open your system and pow ! It just the devious way my mind works.. |
re assure me please |
Hi guru! If the hacker is good it doesn´t matter, if you have a firewall or not... If you only download videos or mp3s you are save... beware of games or other files with exe code, scann them with at least one virus scanner... But 100% safety is a dream, its impossible to realize... Morgwen |
Possible yes. But why should they and I never hearded about this so far. Today it's much more realistic to get hackt by script kiddie somewhere else (e.g. join a IRC channel and get portscanned) - get spyware when installing many software - or get a virus/trojan when running misc executables found on internet, gnutella or received in mail attachments. I'm not sure if this answers your question? |
