.xlx

What's the deal with the temporary files that do not finish downloading? They all have this .xlx suffix and are unplayable by any player. How can I convert these into working files?

The deal with these files is that they are temp files, just as you have called them and that they have not finished downloading. To convert them to working files, just wait for them to download.

I understand that....however, I have many files that are stuck on 99% or so for two weeks. At least with Bearshare, it puts them in a temp folder, but the format hasn't been changed. Is there a way to change the format to access a partial file?

as far as i know, there is no way to change the partial files. you might try using the search feature and looking for other posts on this subject. It would also be beneficial if you read up on downloads stuck at 99%. This too is in other posts. I just don't feel like looking for them specifically. The seach feature at the top right hand side of the page seems to work well though.

I understand that you want the files that you are downloading, but here is another thought: why would you want incomplete files on your computer. This makes me furious when i download partially completed files from some other types of gnutella p2ps. I know that bearshare used to be like this, because i used to use it as well. Also, please be kind to the many folks like me that do not want you partially completed files and do not share these files(that is if you figure out how to change the format).

Happy Dowloading :)

I usually copy the .xlx files somewhere else, and rename them (from blahblah.xlx to blahblah.mpeg) and they played fine in Windows Media Player. However, I can't say the same about other types (.avi, jpegs, .exe). Would recommend you copy them somewhere else and rename them. If that doesn't work, at least you'll still have the temp file. Can't offer much more than that.
