Default what ports are required to be open in a firewall ?

Hi,

Just trying this software out and am very impressed.

Just need to know what ports are required. I have At Guard running on the pc and a hardware firewall on the dsl router.

At Guard keeps popping up with port requests from Peeranha (41 different ports so far ranging from 10001 to 9241). Most are blocked at the router and I use At Guard to find what is required before opening them up if needed.

problem is 82 new rules (for 2 way traffic) hell of a number to administor.

Can someone please provide me with the expected port blocks that are needed.

Cheers

Rims

Arrow Ports

Usually Gnutella clients use port 6343, but that doesn't mean you can't use another one.

I know the main port which Gnucleus & Bearshare use but on trying Peeranha suddenly ports were being opened everywhere.

I have now stopped using it as I have very little confidence that its doing what it should and not somethings it shouldn't.

Cheers

Ok,

Sorted.

The Nutella client (and most internet software) will use a random available port on the client machine to make an outbound connection to the defined port on the remote machine.

Any replies from teh remote machine will come back to the defined port on the client machine. Therefore only the defined port has to be opened in the firewall (as a destination port going either in or out).

At Guard was bringing up warnings that the app was trying to make an out going connection from various ports on my machine (as it would because of the reasons mentioned above) but did not say that the destination port was the one defined.

Thanks

Rims

Rim Block,

you have to allow outgoing and incoming traffic via this port! You can also change the port in PEERanha, I recommend this because some ISP block the port 6346!

Change the port under settings/connection!
