Background erasing with photoshop CS5

I use the background eraser tool in photoshop CS5 but I have a problem:
when the eraser hits a part of the image that I do not want to erase, how to
retrieve that part that has been erased in error?

Please reply by step-by-step instructions as I am a slow learner as a senior citizen.
