Deleted Emails

When i delete emails in my pc, I get a notice that, say, 20 emails have been QUOTE deleted forever UNQUOTE.

Why, then, do they pop up again on screen, together with several others that had been deleted earlier?

Have they been deleted forever, or not? The mind boggles.
