Joe Busuttil has a spectacular aura about
Default Locking desktop icons

How to lock desktop icons in alphabetical order in Windows 10? When I put them in alphabetical order manually, one-by-one, they tend to get messed up after a short while.

Thank you for helping me to solve this frustrating problem.

Simple. Right-click desktop and choose Sort by > Name.

The way you wish to work with icons sounds like you should be using a Mac computer instead. There would no longer be the types of problems you are constantly having with desktop icons. Unfortunately, ever since Microsoft copied Apple's icon concept, the Microsoft version has always been notably inferior and problem ridden. The icons on Windows are set up differently to that of Mac OS.

An ex-Apple employee was hired by Microsoft who gave them the idea to use icons. But Microsoft used a very different method of incorporating them; almost a stone-age technological and cumbersome approach in comparison.

Many thanks for your prompt and detailed reply. It taught me something I never
new, namely, that the Mac system is much more friendly-oriented than Windows.

I have been wrestling with pc problems for many years now, but, to quote the old adage, "it is never too late to learn".

Renewed thanks for kindness and patience.
