There is a third solution... you can convert your files to VCD or SVCD format (for example .mpg) and can burn it to normal CDs (with a normal burner). All newer DVD players should be able to play them -look in your description.

I had thought about burning them to CDs. How do I convert them to VCD OR SVCD. How many CDs would a two hour movie take and will they play back on most CD players that are connected to TVs?

You need a program for it.

It depends on the format you use. Two or three.

You mean DVD player right? Your DVD player have to support the formats, look in the manual or on the website of the manufacturer.

I also have a Formac TVR attached to my computer. I recorded a DVD, "Open Range". I can play it back on my computer but have not figured how to record it to a VCR yet. It would be just as good to record it to CDs, maybe better because it would remain digital.

The movies that I have recorded off some rented DVDs have an extension "DV". Is that their format? I have a Formac TVR that is a digital to analog and bac converter. I have it connected to a VCR and have tried to copy the movies to the VCR, however the TVR is not putting out a signal to the VCR.
