Setting your connection speed to 'modem' will also affect your download speed. Setting it faster should not cause any problems with your computer unless you download a lot of files simultaneously.

You also might want to check whether or not you are firewalled. If you have a router you can configure it to forward ports 6346-6350 so you can accept incoming connections, increasing both the number of files you find and the download speed.

trap_jaw, I think they mean that they are having problems with the files they are downloading being corrupted in some way...

That's a whole other subject, right ?

Many possible reasons for that - Some of the reasons can be 'fixed' and some cannot...

Need to know more...

i seem to always download atleast 6 to 10 at a time so that could be the problem but it never was a problem on my other computer. But i will try that firewall thing and see if that will help. Thank you two for your time and help.

I'm using winamp:

I wouldn't advise you to upgrade Real Player. I'm still using v8 (last one before Real One) and it works fine.

As trap_jaw said, Winamp is a great player, but if you are only looking for an mp3 player, I'd go with v2.91, not 5.

Do a search with, your p2p client, for

Winamp 2.95 Full Suite+ Pro..... .zip
(About 9.2MB)

or

Winamp 2.91 Full Suite+ Pro..... .zip

or

Winamp 2.81 Full Suite+ Pro..... .zip

All three versions are out there and normally will appear in a search for ... winamp

The 2.95 is the LAST 'small' (i.e. brilliant) Winamp version.
It also includes all of the 'Video' goodies and is very stable.
ALL the critical initial Set-Ups are already done.
The only plug-ins included, and there are many, are all tested and proven to be stable... On many different Windozer OSs.
Installation is much easier as you simply unzip to d:\Program Files\ Nothing else needed other than a preliminary read of the included "Plug-Ins Settings" html file.

There is also a stable version of the G-Force visualisation.
The settings are highly 'tweaked' and the result is certainly one of the best vis displays out there now...

In regards to audio quality... In & Out... There is little to choose between the 2.95 and the 2.91 versions... 2.91 is basically just without the Video stuff... There are a few 'improvements' in 2.95 that address certain stability issues, but... There isn't much in it between them.

I would suggest getting both the 2.95 and the 2.91.

Or ask google: ;)

Found a German side with the English 2.95 Full version:

The so-called Winamp 2.95 version available from many sites is in fact a non-released beta... Same with 2.92... Nothing realy 'wrong' with them... There were more business type issues involved which stopped their release...

But, the 'plain' versions are simply the 'full' installers...

They are NOT the same as the 'Winamp 2.xx Full Suite+' versions

(Which partly explains why the Full Suite versions are 8.5MB and bigger !)

Also, the 'Full Suite+' versions are only available in the "Gnutella Net fed" p2p networks... Not on any site. They are also becoming more available on DC hubs.

One comment on these FS+ versions... If you do D/L and install one of them, don't move the components around to new 'positions' on your screen... Well, not immediately... All 'windows/modules' are very carefully arranged so that all pages can be accessed no matter what other pages may also be open... You can 'see' all the pages you choose to have open, always... Nothing is totally hidden by another screen.
In other words, give the first layout a chance before you decide to alter anything. (This does not apply to the Dee2 plug-in which needs to be re-located once, after the first launch.
(Dee2 with very special Pre-Sets... No Dee3 because it's rubbish !
Don't know what happened with that one ?)

The FS+ versions are quite different in comparison to the versions available on the sites...
They are also much easier to install and use - At least for those who are not crazy enough to have worked to get a 'phd' in How To Do What You Want To Do With Winamp... AND expect it to work !
;)
