can nayone tell me if it is possible to copy a folder in my mail server to a location where i can copy the contents to a disc?

Well, ya !
IF... If I understand you...

In OE, just click ONCE on the file you want to save so that the file is 'highlighted'... After that,

Click on File up there on the left...

Then, click on Save as...

Next, you will see a screen where you must select where, as in what folder and with what file name, to save the file...

Now, heh heh, you have probably saved the file(s) to your HardDiskDrive (hdd), right ?

But, you said 'disc' which could also mean a CD...

That, as they say in the cheap restaurants, is a whole other kettle of fish !

There ARE other ways to do the same, but this is easier to start with...

Hold on a second... You said FOLDER... Sorry...

Easy

'Restore' your Outlook Express Window so that it covers less than half your screen... No need for accuracy

Double-Click on My Documents (This is an example, OK ?) or,
Double-Click on My Computer and then Double-Click on C:\ (probably)

'Restore', if necessary, so that whatever window is open is also about half of your screen...

The idea is to be able to see, at the same time, both the OE Window and A Window where you'd like to move the folder... OK ?

Now, RIGHT-Click and HOLD the Right-Click button down ON the folder you want to 'MOVE' (or 'COPY')

While you are HOLDING that Right button down, 'drag' the folder to the 'other window' where you want it to go... Either just in an 'open' area of the other Window or over a Folder where you may want it to go...

Now, RELEASE the Right button and a small pop-up window will appear asking you if you want to 'MOVE' or 'COPY' or a few other things...
For safety when you are learning this stuff, choose 'COPY'
(That way you won't blow out the 'original' if anything goes wrong...)

Takes seconds to do this... Ages to write it down !

Again... Other ways to do this stuff, but it would take even longer to write down the really easy ways to do this... Easier, but a bit more 'advanced'.

I do it by selecting File--->Export---->Messages

There's another way. Copy the folder C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{xxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express (the folder may vary depending on your OS) to a cd. Then just select File---> Import---> Messages to load them from another PC.

Note that you can also drag and drop messages from OE to the desktop or to an Explorer window. Messages will be saved as separate .eml files (containing the full headers and their content)...

But some old versions OE sometimes forget to give distinctive file names to multiple messages with the same subject line (common when copying multiple messages in the same thread).
This bug was corrected since: a numbered suffix is added to the filename before the .eml extension
