![]() Increasing the number of 'hosts' or Ultrapeers will not only probably not give you any actual benefit but, will almost certainly reduce overall performance. In fact, BearShare now has a default a maximum of 2 Ultrapeers ! Performance is better than ever. The only theoretical argument in favour of increased numbers of 'hosts' is related to the idea that more will automatically result in greater search returns... This is very much a fallacy. If, indeed, you do not mean Ultrapeer connections but are instead referring to increasing the number of 'hosts' (who are sharing one particular file) in order to increase download 'speed', than the only way is to select for D/Ling those files which report the larger number of 'sources' sharing...
