The instructions for setting up a static ip are basically the same for all models. There's a link to how to do it.

Also it should explain in your manual how to do it. I also have a D-Link & my manual does give some explanations. Yours I suspect is this one: http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=jN7uAYLx/...Jk6j8rFivsyg== else type in your model.

Port Forward.com does not list all models. So if your model is not there it's difficult to know whether port forwarding is possible or not with it. But download the manual & have a look. Then you'll find out whether it's possible or not.

Normally the steps are:
1. Set up a Static IP
2. Forward a Port
3. Force IP using 6346 within LW.

Okay I checked. I had already set up the static IP. So now when I set up the port in D-Link website, which protocol should I enabled, TCP or UDP or both?

Okay so this is what I do

1. Go to command prompt and type in ipconfig - Private IP
2. Go to D-Link website where I set up the forwarding
3. Add Private IP in Local IP
4. In both Start Port and End Port, it will be 6346
5. Protocol will be both
6.CLick enabled and apply
7. Go to Limewire and then Firewall
8. Click on Force IP and Port will be 6346 and apply it

Is that all I have to do? Now I should see huge increase in downloading speed right? Remember I have ultra fast connection, 5 Mbps= 500 KB per sec and more than 300 upload. When I download from any sever except for peer to peer network, I could download at full speed. But before this I could only download less than 20 KB per sec most of the time IN Limwire. So if I am downloading from cable user and it is good connection, I should go over 100 KB downloading speed most of the time right?

Waiting for your respond Lord Of The Ring

That all sounds right yes. But check your D-Link manual. With my D-Link 504G I had to reboot the modem after completing the port forwarding.

These are instructions for the D-Link 504G on a Mac. But this is a different model!!!

Does this IP Static also apply when it comes to hosting the game? Because when I was able to host the game for a month now without having to change anything. Does this mean I am using Static IP? Is setting up Port Forwarding for the game same as Limewire?

Advanced games you play over the internet will also need to have ports opened depending on the needs of the particular game. You will need to read the game's instructions (manual) about whether & what ports need to be opened for that reason. Same principle applies. It's exactly the same but will use different port numbers. I've never done port forwarding for 2 purposes, but I'd suggest they'd be best as separate listings as port forwarding (ie: do a separate port forwarding.)

That's werid, because the only way I can set up the IP and port is having to go through "Port Forwarding". This is what I have to enter when entering Port Forwarding

Local IP Adr/ Start Port/ End Port/ Protocol Enabled

I do not see any virtual sever so this may be my only opition. But maybe I am suppose to use this one Port Triggering but you do not enter IP Adress, maybe it is already applyed. Let me show you what it look like.

Trigger Range /Target Range Protocol Enable

Start Port /End Port /Start Port/ End Port

So I think I am supposed to use Port Forwarding, maybe not?

Really good that this thread is helping people...

If it wasn't, there would be many, many posts from VERY unhappy people blasting smitty_the_smith, fabion, LotR (who deserves at least a daily blasting, anyway), et et voilą... (Who we all know requires at a minimum an hourly blasting !)
