I did all the instructions and it didn't work, do I try different proxies?

What if your ISP block port 6346. What port number is recomended as alternative. I am using port 80 as recom by LOTR. It works but wont this influence something else ? Ursula (forum member) recom using port numbers from 49152 to 65535 (Dynamic Ports). Bottomline should I or not force IP with 6346??

Try 6346 & if it doesn't work then try other port no.'s. Use port 80 as a last resort only. Some people have had success using different ports such as 3500 or 20282 for example. (With the tests below you must have LW running at the same time!!!)

I've just been getting confused about the two settings on the image you posted. Are the 'Listen on Port' and 'Manual Port Forward' always going to be the same? Why would they ever be different?

Also, Limewire up to this point has been working fine with uPnP, but I just discovered I never enabled it in the firmware of my Linksys BEFSX41 router! How can that be?

Finally, should I go ahead and enable uPnP in the router's firmware, and check it in Limewire, (and if so should I leave the 'Listen on Port' at my 5xxxx choice and keep it forwarded in the router's firmware?) And finally (I mean it this time), does Limewire need both TCP and UDP or just one (which one)?

The trick is that I need to block connection for any gnutella-operating software.

If blocking port 6346 it doesnt stop LW from connecting. What can i do?

If you need to BLOCK access to so-called Gnutella clients, it is very easy... Far easier than for the millions of university students out there who WANT to enable Gnutella Network connects !

qbertprime yes UPnP is much prefered. So set your Linksys for UPnP & do the same for LW. AFAIK The newer model Linksys have reliable UPnP. But there are times LW or the device doesn't handle UPnP by losing connection. Most Linksys devices 'should' be very safe for the UPnP setting. With UPnP set, port forwarding is not necessary! UPnP does the same job by opening the appropriate port at the request of the program.

TCP & UDP both should be enabled for access. It's your choice of which port to set up to use.

I'll await Inflynx's responses to Ursula's questions before I answer. Knowing the environment of use will help.

Im actually having a small home network which i share with several other roommates. The only difference is that i have got all the passwords and the understanding of how that all works.

Thoses guys are using Limewire. I have to admit that LW is a vary good software so while it is been used all the internet goes terriblly slow. Not very good for me since i never use gnutella.

The case though is that im not farmilia how to configure Netgear DG834G router to block 6346 port. I mean i did configure built-in firewall for blocking in- & out- connections for any local IP addresses, but it doesnt stop LW from getting connected and working.

It sounds to me negotiation about times of use would be the best answer so everybody is happy. Otherwise there's going to be some very cheesed off roommates.

Blocking the port via your Netgear might not necessarily totally block their use of LW however. There's filters that can be used on networks but these are commercial programs.
