Tell us what type of movie file it is you dwnlded. DVD uses mpeg2 & vcd mpeg1 for general movie disk creation by the public. What is the extention your files have? You might need to convert the file format 1st before u can burn it with Nero.

Being a windows video format, I'm most surprised that Nero won't burn it to dvd or do its own conversion of it. Actually I just opened my Nero Burning ROM & Nero Xpress (v5) & burning rom can make vcd's from avi/mpg. But Xpress told me (after I selected svcd) I was lacking the codec to convert to mpeg2 (required for dvd) & to go to www.nero.com for purchasing info. I don't think my version (5) can burn dvd's anyway I don't know. Depending on your Nero version, you might be lacking the plugin. Have a look at: http://www.nero.com/us/index.html & also http://www.nero.com/us/DVDVideo_Plugin.html

I just did a quick google & burn4 free seems a reasonable choice (although I've heard both raves & complaints about it!): http://www.burn4free.com/ & some others here: http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...e+Search&meta=

Default burn4free

I took your advice, and downloaded burn4free, It burned the video clip for me, but it wouldn't play on my dvd, and yes my dvd player is compatible with all rw dvds. Any suggestions

It's very difficult to know what the prob is without knowing more details. Personally I don't normally work with compressed files, I start with uncompressed & then compress them into MPeg2 before burning to dvd. Also I'm not a Windows person so I don't have the experience with those softw's. You can either or both supply as many details for me such as the type & size of the movie file u have, &/or browse around some of the links I gave earlier (ie: for links to dvd converting & burning help.) There's a lot of help there & you will also find a forum. You may evn be able to get a direct answer there as to what the bet technique is. Hope this helps.

Default The Burning Issue

Is the error message from your DVD player or from the media player. Update the drivers for your DVD player and get the latest codecs for your media player. After you burned your DVD, did you verify the contents? If you did and you found all files on the DVD then the issue is with your media player. If you browse the DVD and get nothing (don't forget to ask for ALL FILES) then you didn't actually burn the files to the DVD. As LOTR advised, it is a good idea to begin with an uncompressed file then compress using an mpg(insert format number) compatible with your media player. If your DVD player is very new or the compression program you are using is very new, it may be using an mp4 format that is compatable with DivX players but can cause issues for Windows Media Player and in my experience, sometimes Quicktime. The best thing to do is burn in a common format. When I first used NERO, I had problems with playability so I just generally used it for audio files. (THIS MY EXPERIENCE -- PLEASE DON'T SEND GAZILLIONS OF HATE MAIL -- I like Nero).
