Angry movie downloads

I downloaded a movie for the first time and I got happy everything seemed fine I couldn't believe how fast it was until I saw it was a trailor.. Ok now I know you might not get the whole movie, how long should an average movie (dvd) be. Also I downloaded a movie file with an avi suffix, and I couldn't play it in windows 10, real player 10, and Nero, which movie files are sure to play without any problems, does anyone know.

Commercial DVD's range from 4-8+ GB. DivX/MPeg1 movies should be 100-700 MB+ in size.
You may need xtra codecs to play some of these movies; eg: Nimo's codec pack: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html Or alternatively, try another player such as VLC (it's free) or perhaps Hyplay (also free) or even this free one. But then, there's many around.

You can play all video files with almost every player, as LOTR posted you need the right codecs.

Why? WMP plays every video!

You're asking a mac user why a person would be better off using anything other than Microsoft wmp? hehehe Other than their licencing of content & requirement to pursue other codecs. Wmp won't play all movie files on its own. Other apps will. Since MS are hand in hand with the RIAA & are all about licencing & maximising profits, the smell of wmp & its inconvenient error messages when you're wanting to play a particular file are enough to say, hey there's also more user friendly apps out there. Hey I was starting to get worked up on that! hehehe it must have been the smell of M$

Tell me which player (under Windows) plays all videos on its own? AFAIK there is no, you need for every player the right codecs so there is really no need to download ten players to play all videos, just choose one which you like, install the codecs and watch the movies!

I haven't had any probs with VLC playing everything (perhaps the odd exception.) Actually I've read reviews about wmp v's some other apps & wmp was rated better. Not to say they didn't mention some downsides to it. But most apps have their +'s & -'s. Audio/video player is whatever takes your fancy so long as it can play all 'u' want it to play (even if it means dwnlding xtra codecs.)
