Mac X cannot open AVI files shows as a quicktime file

using lime wire on Mac X 10.3 does not open AVI files what can I do to do .

tahat's strange that QT can't play AVI files! Go to system Prefs & qickyim e& make surw all MIMR opions are turned on. Also get a player with inbuilt codecs: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
