Default Please Help Me

Okay, I've downloaded about 10 movies from limewire w/ no problem. Viewing them on RealPlayer, no problem. Burning them to dvd is a problem. I have a dvd burner on my computer so what's the problem. I have PowerDVD, Quicktime, Nero, WMP. Are these not the right things I need? What the heck are codecs, b/c I see that a lot when searching for answers. I can burn cds easily, but always get an error for dvd, saying file type not supported or something like that. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I suppose it depends which version of Nero you have! If you have the most recent it should be easy to burn to dvd IF the files are mpeg or avi. CODECs is short for compressor/decompressor. These are mini programs you need to load onto your system so a no. of apps can utilise them to play or encode certain types of files (some programs have inbuilt codecs.) Divx is a good codec to have b/c many movies nowadays are encoded as divx/avi-divx. But they might just have an avi extension. Codecs: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html

AVI is very much like QT. It has a generic video format, yet it can also be a hybrid format incorporating other types of compressed formats. Becoming very popular is avi-divx. For DivX go to http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/ For 3ivx go to http://www.3ivx.com/ & go to dwnld page & look on top right of page. I should also have mentioned Xvid which you'll find at the divx site I gave you.

But if you really need dvd help I have 2 vital links you can't not visit & check out. These sites have ALL the answers you could possibly need: 1. http://www.videohelp.com/ &
2. http://forum.dvd-guides.com/

Most of what you gave me was over my head. I did go to the sites and the second site was really helpful in copying dvds from originals. I still can't burn my download movies from limewire. I have Nero StartSmart and it's not working. RealPlayer says it won't fit. Is it possible to shrink it somehow. Or convert it from MPEG to something that I can burn with.

I'm not too sure of the answer to your problem. Paricularly since I don't use Windows. Reduce MPeg size after a quick google.

Won't fit onto a dvd? Are you sure it's a dvd disk you're trying to burn to or a CD disk? Do you have a dvd burner or a CD burner? They ARE different. You cannot burn onto dvd disks using a CD burner!!! I have a suspicion you have confused things here. Yes the disks look identical but that's all. Also, RealPlayer 'might' only be able to burn to cd.

To burn movies onto cd or dvd it's best to have either mpeg or avi files. Nero, if it's the top model of their products should have no problems.

Try posting your question in one of these forums: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/index.php
or perhaps this one: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

tmpg enc plus 'might' be what you're looking for.

Yes I know the difference b/c a cd and dvd. I have both burners, but I'll try posting my questions on the other site. Thanks

Go here >

http://www.nero.com/en/nero-up.php

Download Update-Package 1 - 28.58MB (as of today)

and

Download Update-Package 2 - 33.47MB (as of today)

If you already have a version of Nero installed, Remove it using the Control Panel function, Add/Remove Programs...

Then, install the basic Nero program first (Update-Package 1)

Re-Start your machine...

Install NeroVision Express 3 (Update-Package 2)

Re-Start your machine...

Do NOT install any other Nero components other than perhaps the 'templates' which are available for easy downloading after you have initiated a 'burn' of a video file to a DVD disc...
If you do D/L the 'template pack', do not continue with your burn project at that time... Re-Boot your machine again and all should be well... Honest !

Last... Remember that when you are 'burning' a video file onto a DVD disc there is a lot of processing going on... A LOT !!!
Don't do anything else with your machine during the burning... Nothing...

AND, you are going to normally want a minimum of 5GB of truly free space on your Hard Disc Drive...
