I am new at this and I'm getting nervous reading about all these possible virus n adware. I have Norton Antivirus - is this enough? I read where someone says that before he downloads, he scans it for virus - can someone tell me how to do that? I'm also going to download programs mentioned here for added protection. I have only downloaded to two songs that when I tried to play it, it opens into MusicMatch and it still won't play - I'm worried that I may have downloaded a file I shouldn't. If I remember correctly, I think it was a wma file. Can I delete them from my system and how? Also, what are the safest options to set in LimeWire to prevent any unwanted file sharing and incoming virus or adware? I'm sorry for asking so many questions or sounding stupid, but I'm not computer savy when it comes to these types of programs. I don't want to bring any harm to my computer or anyone else. Thanks in advance. |
Just wanted to let everyone know that all files on my computer that are of WMV format, are in fact safe to download. Almost all of them are of Guitar Lesson Videos (over 12 gigs worth). |
raaf thans raaf, we will........ --------------- *spam link removed* |
How to tell if They are WMA or WMv Files I have just downloaded the Limewire 5 program..... which is different to the past limewire programs.... how can i tell if the file is WMV/A! |
In search results, click the tab to the far top-right of window to show in Classic View. Then right-click column-heading bar & choose to show extensions. That should show whether the file is wma or wmv. You can also filter out wma/wmv files via settings. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/new-fe...tml#post338459 - Classic view is similar to LW's 4 viewing. ;) |
Thank you for the info. I've noticed that those files usually have some sort of sexual title so I have avoided them but always had a feeling there was something more to it. Appreciate the info! Have a good week! :) |
You might find this interesting applying to your techniques: How to find music ;) Also check all way thru this thread .. tips on spam recognition, though I'm sure you know most of them by now: Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see) .. not only being related to size ... size counts though ;) Bitrate or should I say no bitrate is a major telling sign .. but there are some that are 'still' spam but are corrupted .. knowing how to tell bitrate v's file size makes a big difference also. Those types of spam (corrupted) were more-so spammed a couple of years ago .. less so now compared to others. |
WOW! I have a LOT to learn! (ack!) Thank you very much! I do find a fair amount of corrupted files but no too big a problem with that. I'll be sure to start checking that "size" thing.. ;) |
ty for warnng much app. |
