Transfering to ipod

I'm trying to move the files that I have downloaded onto my ipod software but there doesn't seem to be anyway to do it. I've tried downloading files directly into the ipod & I've tried saving the downloads elsewhere & then moving them into the ipod - but no joy. Any ideas?

Did you try putting the files in iTunes?
