Why can't I add new hosts? My friend and I are both running Limewire Pro version 4.8.1 We are trying to connect to each others IP address by adding them in the add host connection area. I am on Adelphia.net (cable connection) she is on Verizon (DSL connection). Both of those ISPs permit uploading and downloading through Limewire. We both have our firewalls turned off. After entering our respective IPs it shows it starting to connect, then drops out after a few seconds. Is there something here that we're missing? Much appreciation in advance! |
Try the Direct Connect (beside the "What's New" button in the Search Pane) |
Thanks! I didn't even see that! Now I know why it wouldn't work, though! I'm using a router with my XBox.. Any way around that? Very appreciative.... |
open LW's port (6346) on your router, and forward it to your computer's internal IP |
Hmm... that sounds good, now how do I do that??? LOL! |
try using your router brand as a search term in the Forum search (top right of this page). That should lead you to info about port forwarding your model. Cheers btw--once ports are forwarded and opened, your LW should run even better. |
Hi VTscapes If you go here & select your Belkin model on left column under Belkin: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm This will give you instructions how to forward a port. You will need to set up a Static IP first. So follow the setting up a static ip link 1st. The steps are: 1. Set up a Static IP 2. Forward Port 6346 3. Force IP within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image (Click on link) & 2 posts after that for the new version of LW. * Note there are instructions for setting up the static ip specifically using the Belkin, then follow the link at the bottom of that page called Configuring a Static IP Address. * Some modems/routers require a saving of settings & some require rebooting for them to take effect. So I'm not sure about the Belkin. |
Thanks for the help, guys!! I spent all last night frustrating myself, but when I turned the computer on this morning it worked! I totally didn't even think that I might have had to reboot my computer! DOH!! LOL... |
And, for so-called Direct Connects within Gnutella Network, 99.999999% of the time you will NOT want to be connected to the 'general hosts' but only to those selected individuals of your choice. You do not always need to be sharing your available bandwidth with the general network... Often it is possible to spread files FASTER by first sharing them 'privately' to a small number of users... All in a much shorter period of time... THEN you all share the new goodies with the general network, hmmm ? 'Private sharing' is not bad ! Just don't do it all the time ! ;) |
