Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Home Made PCs

Peerless & CRT

What can I say, other than I felt the same way when starting to build my own PC, I too felt that I knew my own needs and requirements better than anyone else and that no one would give me the facilities and features I wanted.

But guess what, a little thing called life (and family) got in the way and I had to make a choice, spend time putting a new PC together or spend time with the family.

And, when all said and done, my compromise of buying a new PC has not been that bad.

CRT, sorry if I came over as "too pessimistic" but I have seen PCs and servers that have had cascading failures, where they lost their power prematurely and internal items (memory, HD, network cards, etc.) started to fail, one after the other.

Finally, I guess it's just a point of seeing your glass as half empty or half full.

It's very likely that you have a thermal problem. Check the fan and monitor the CPU temperature.

WTF? Hey, there's no Windows here as far as I can see, smell, think or throw a PC. However, even I know that it's completely retarted to use that kind of crap without SP2. No wonder it crashes all the time. Have you checked how much spam per second originates from your machine?

First of all, I'm not fat at all nor do I use the FAT filesystem anywhere. If you don't have a hole in your butt, I really pity you because that must be a rather painful experience.

Next, SP2 kills no hardware. If it caused any problems, you have to be a little more precise than "killed" or "****** **" because that's shallow kiddy speak without any useful semantics. I'm not Microsoft, if MS Windows has a bug, report it to them. You paid them for it, not me or anyone else. I've submitted bug reports and bug fixes for free software and most often the support was better than anything a commercial vendor like Microsoft will ever offer.

If Microsoft combines legit bugfixes along with dubious DRM and TCPA updates, that's their right and their business. Nobody forces you to use their products and almost nobody would recommend them anyway. However, it's not acceptable that thousands of misguided, pseudo-paranoid, uneducated, incapable users turn the Internet into a spam and worm arena. It's that simple: Don't use MS Windows or just stay offline otherwise.

Further, I don't have to be 100% correct or correct at all. I know very well that I exaggerate sometimes. I expect intelligent readers to get that. That doesn't mean at all that I spout lies or misleading false information. What I write is based on my opinions and my attitude, that's all. Basically, I don't give a farting crap about my credibility because I know very well what kind of retards many of the so-called "credible" people are which turns "credibility" into a shallow useless attribute.

Last but not least, if you think I made an error or told something wrong in whatever thread and context, just correct it. In the end, everybody has to decide for himself whom he trusts and what he believes. It's not like you cannot find information yourself about almost everything using Google, Wikipedia etc.

that was a reely lame comeback...how much brain capacity if any did you use to think that one up?

the reson iv avoided sp2 is because it messed up my other comp when i attempted to install it, by messed up i meen ,the verry MINUT i installed it it froze the computer, when i restarted it my cd rom drives wouldent work at all , and it was verry slow and it disabled my internet some how so i couldent get online. i couldent fix it so i reformatted and started over agen. and never touched sp2 again.

and i never reely saw any need for it...windows works fine without it, why bother??

tell me what it dose and what is so graet about it? i still have the cd , if i have a good reson il try installing it again.

and no its not microsofts right to lie to ,trick and force people into doing somthing ,installing somthing or agreeing to somthing that is going to make ms richer and screw a lot of people over.

"However, it's not acceptable that thousands of misguided, pseudo-paranoid, uneducated, incapable users turn the Internet into a spam and worm arena. It's that simple: Don't use MS Windows or just stay offline otherwise."<----i have no idia what your talking about there, please explain ?

and im sorry about being rude in the last reply, i was pissed because i tride to reply to the dvhs convorsation twice and my "magical modem" decides to crash the computer right after i get done typing probobley an entire page. TWICE IN A ****** ROW. the sp2 thing was what set me off because i still dont beleve its true . if you can prove to me why sp2 should be installed i will definantley consider it.

and it looks like your right about dvhs onley holding 44gB insted of 400...i think i had my bits and Bytes mixed up....it dose hold 400giga bits, wich is about 44 giga bytes. oops...

thats good to know . but im allmast certen its the modem and or modem drivers. i just looked at my manuel agen and it sez that the bored supports the prescott . i installed the heatsink, fan and thermal puddy that came with the processor so it should be fine temprature-wize. and i dont have it overclocked so it shouldent be makeing any xtra heat. the ram i have installed is made by corsair and corsair is on the QVL thing so it should work. but i dont see the model# of my ram on the QVL...is that bad??
this is the ram i bot for it :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145504

im still shur its the modem...if it keeps the crap up after i quit using the modem when i get dsl in a few days, il know its somthing els (if that happens. i predict it will quit the crashing after i stop using the modem)

can i install sp2 without reformatting?? if i cant install it without reformatting it will be a last rezort.

allsow ...if you have this same mobo , do you know if the therd pata connector(the blue one on the lower right of the bored that points in a differant direction than the 2 other ones) can be used for 2 xtra HDDs without it being a RAID??? because i tride plugging in a single hdd to it and it wouldent show up in windows no matter how much i playd with the jumpers etc?

Thumbs up Serious Home Built PCs

CRT & Peerless

You guys are into some serious stuff, wish I had the time to get into PC building again.

CRT, from my own experience of adding numerous second HD drives to PCs (back when I used to work on Wi*** and NT4.0 PCs), there's a few things you must do before installation (sorry if you have done these already):

1) You have to set the switches or jumpers on the HD from master to slave, I recall that all HD leave their factory's set as "master".

2) You must set the bios to see a second HD disk, I don't think that mobos can automatically see second HDs yet without manual intervention (perhaps Peerless can clarify this point).

3) After installation, you must FDisk the 2nd drive as a slave (or ext partition). Again, maybe Peerless can clarify this point.

Obviously, I know nothing about the mobo you are working on but, if my memory serves, jumpers are best left alone unless there is some aspect of the board's performance you want to change or add to, e.g adding a PCI/SCSI card with an onboard bios.

Hope the above helps but please disregard if it is way out of date.

Dear Mr. Tube,

Please copy ALL of your important personal stuff to a CD...

Then, depending on the manufacturer of your Hard Disk Drive, download/acquire the suitable-to-type 'initial format tool' program such as Disk Wizzard for SEAGATE drives...
All the HDD manufacturers offer these 'tools' for their drives.

When you have whatever program you need (on a bootable CD), run a format from said CD to completely eliminate Window$ XP...

Then....

Smart stuff here...

Install Windows 2000 Professional and, while partitioning the C:\ drive, allow about a 40GB partition for a Linux installation to follow the Win 2k install...

Install Win2k and FORGET YOUR PROBLEMS.

Fools use XP... MEGA-FOOLS use XP Home.

The 'corporate world', including government agencies, DO NOT use Windows anymore.

Think about it, heh ?

If you get any crap such what like as ntldr missing or any problems with your machine reading from CD on boot, ya' all get back to us, hear ?

guys , this thread is farley old now...iv fixed all of the problems with the pc other than the crashing ,wich i know the cause of (faulty modem) , if it keeps it up after i quit using the modem when i get dsl il start a new thread.

im not going to uninstall xp pro because: i allredy payed for it , it runs fine and smooth other than the soon to be fixed moadem prob, it looks better than 2k linux mac etc, as peerless sed it suports HT and sata150 etc, it runs mor software than anything els and reformatting agen would be an asspain.

windows xp is fine and pefectley safe to use if you know what you are doing, moast of the "holes" in it can be "plugged up" one way or another. MOAST of windows(automatic update is a lame idia) is good and works verry niceley . MICROSOFT on the other hand is full of shi* for many obvious resons.

peerless, how do you get your dolphins in every poast you make ?? i have a pictur of a cheeseburger i want to do the same thing with and i cant get it to show up nomatter what i try. how do i get pictures into every poast i make???
