Default Burned but still blank...

I was working on my 2nd audio CD...I was sucessfull with my first but that was 2 months ago. I can burn MP3 files onto a CD and play them on any CD player (in theory), however after I've made my playlist and burn process completed, WMP stills says the CD is blank. Am I missing something obvious or could I possibly have a burner problem? Come to think of it, I got frustrated trying to burn a data CD about a month ago...
Thanks for any input you can offer.
Megan

I strongly reccomend against using WMP for burning disks. For a list of the best burners look here. Personally, I reccomend Nero. If you can at all afford the software I would reccomend buying it. It's a very power burning tool, but simple to use at the same time. However, if you are unable to buy burning software look here for a list of the best free software. Good luck.

If WMP is all you have, you may want to go to Microsoft's site to download a patch, sounds like you've got an issue with it, by the way, what version are you using? Anyway, go to:

www.windowsupdate.com

If not, the problem may be the drivers with your burner, try going to the manufacturers' website and make sure your drivers are updated.

As deepblue mentioned, you can use alternative media players, Nero is a good one, however, should you not have it and WMP is all you have, it's a decent program to use for burning, very user-friendly for those who are new to computers. It's sounds like more of a hardware issue than software, when dealing with a problem, you start with the cheapest and easiest fix and then work your way up. Let me know how things work out for you...

Most optical drives don't require drivers to work properly. However, the type of writeable media that you are trying to use may not be supported by your drive. Updating the firmware to the drive may solve the problem. Go to the manufacturers website to get the latest firmware updates. If that doesn't work you should try using only the media that you know that works with your drive. Most CD-R disks should. Good luck.

Well, see, what do I know?!!! could have sworn you do need some sort of software installed with your drives, I had to install one when I upgraded my CD-ROM to CD/DVD-ROM, could that not theoretically be the problem or is this a learning process for me?

WMP works fine for me for burning cds.

maybe your trying to put too many songs on your disc and so it wont burn them. or the disc your trying to use may have somthing on it. it may be scratched.

try just burning a data file to the cd and see if that works , just drag a file any file to the cd writer in my computer and it will show a baloon , follow the instructions that the baloon give you.

if you can burn a file to the cd ,the problem is probobley with WMP , if you cant or the disc is still blank after trying ,you may have a bad drive .

or if you trueley are an idiot....you may be trying to burn cds with a normal CDROM drive ....a cd rom drive is NOT a cd burner/writer drive.

PS. i never needed to install drivers for my cd/dvd burner...

Almost all CD drives do not require software drivers installed on the computer to run. The drives have a chip in that tells the computer everything it needs to know in order to use the drive to read media; writing to media is a whole different thing. Look at it this way, if CD drives needed software drivers to work, how would you install a current operating system? However, some drives may be like video cards. In that they don't work fully until you install drivers for them but still work out of the box. It is a possibility, but I have yet to come across a drive that needed software drivers. I'm not trying to be overly critical and I'm not out to prove you wrong just to make myself look good, I'm only trying to inform... Good luck.

Not a problem, just trying to learn something here, I never portrayed myself as a computer whiz, far from it! I'm the type of person who enjoys learning new things and I will ask questions to things I understand. If you don't learn something new every day, then you wasted a perfectly good day! Thanks for being patient with a technomoron and thanks for the helpful information...

And whom are you referring to with this statement? See, there you go again...no matter who you were referring to, that part was uncalled for and you know it. I know you can't burn with a CD-ROM drive, hence the reason of me upgrading to a CD-DVD drive, I assumed it would be made clear that was the intent, being that the post is titled "Burning..." If my wording was incorrect, on behalf of all of us technomorons, we apologize for sullying up your world with our questions, but remember, you were one once yourself...

i was talking to megan ...not you peach...

and THIS is 100x more un called for than my statement:

quote, origanaly poasted by the hairy frute "And whom are you referring to with this statement? actualy my statment was not uncalled for at all. if your stupid enough to try to burn a cd in a CD ROM drive you need to be beaten with a 2x4.

and i dont beleve you have seen some of the STUPID questions people bring in here...i have and thats why i treat stupid questions the way i do. being a newbi is one thing ...being a retard is another.

and it was just a possibulity and "IF" was the key word there... im shur (or would hope) megan knows the differance between a CD ROM and a CD writer.

and i was not talking to you peach so MIND YOUR OWN BEESWAX!
