Default Got a virus, now what to do?

See, it's like this. I ran my Avast scan this morning and it picked up a virus WIN32:CTX, whatever the heck that is. Anyway, their advice was to put it in the box. So I guess I'm just carrying this thing around with me. Ever since I isolated it, my monitor looks like it has hepatitis. I e-mailed Alwil with this and haven't gotten a reply yet. Is there a virus remover out there for this particular species Hrrrmph. And if I run a remover on my computer, can it detect it within it's box?

What a way to start the day. I did scan all of my shared folders and they came out negative. The display on the file said the file was last modified 6/29/05, which is when I set up the computer. But then, why wouldn't it be found until now? If I sound like I'm talking in circles, I am just very frustrated right now.

Any suggestions? Ooops, the screen just cleared up.

See WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! & if Avast isn't doing the full job, get a back up AV program. Cheer up it happens to most people eventually.

Default Thanks LOR

You cheered me up and I'll take the advice about getting another AV program. But, the thing I don't get is can another AV find the one that is presently stored in Avast's "chest."
And, can they get rid of it?

The computer is working all right now, but I feel like I'm carrying around a vial of NG.

Oh, and btw I scanned all of my shared files, and nothing turned up there.

Thanks again.

If you get another AV program that can detect the virus then it will detect it wherever it is & remove it. So remember to keep your SV definitions up to date. I did leave some clues to free ones (AV programs.)

Default It was a pseudo-virus, but more trouble now

After much communication with Avast and AVG, AVG told me that it was a false positive result, so I got rid of Avast and installed the AVG.

But now I'm having another problem, probably not virus-related, but it occurred only after I discarded the virus chest and its contents. I cannot print web pages. I keep getting a scripts error on the page. I cannot fill out a form on the web without geting that message. I couldn't even find the printer on the start programs. I reinstalled the printer, per HP advice, and still no luck. The uninstall information and printer were listed though in the start programs.

Anyway, if this post doesn't belong here, then maybe the moderator could move it to where it should be, I need some help with this.

Thank you all.

Have you tried Housecall?

http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en...rp.asp?id=scan

It'll detect and pretty much remove anything out there for free. The only time it'll have a problem with virus removal is if the virus/trojan is still operating, then you'll have to find it via Task Manager and shut it down then run the scan again.

Hope thats some help yo yah.

Exclamation AV software to GET

I recommend highly, that you get MS Anti-spyware. It's free on the MS site, and since i started using it, i have had ZERO problems. It catches things and cleans them. Trust me. It works. Get it.
