i am curently using my windows media player to play movies but need codects to play some movies need help please what can i do i know their are some guinesess out their

See CODECs list and alternate players for Movies & I'd also recommend getring a backup player which has in-built codecs such as VLC. GSpot will normally tell you which codecs you need.

I had the same problem. The thing that cured mine was to download 'ACE Mega CoDecS Pack Dashboard', found here:

I personally gave it a high rating and recommend it to everyone. BTW it's FREEWARE

It not only gave me the missing Codex, but it lets me choose which player I want to use for playback. Not all music/videos sound the same as others when downloaded from different sources. At least to me anyway.

There are lots of different playbacks you can get and I like to try different ones. I currently use the following:

BSPlayer/Media Player/DivX/Codecs Media Player/Crystal Player/Direct X 9/FastStone Player to name just a few. Of those, the only ones to give less than perfect playback seems to be the FastStone player and the Crystal. All of these came from either www.cnet.com or www.zdnet.com and tuocows.com.

so you need more than 1 player? you cant just get the nessary cadec and play vids in windows media player then?

Because different video files may be converted using different techniques with different codecs & different audio formats within them, there's actually many codecs you need. An AVI file can really be one of many formats because AVI is simply a containor file. What's inside could be mpeg 4 video or divx video, etc. & mp2/3 audio or mpeg4 audio, etc. There's many different variations & types. WMP is a program where you will need to install several codecs to play most types. I normally recommend VLC & MPlayer because they both have in-built codecs. In my experience, VLC can play more than DivX player can.
