Search button doesn't "work" ???

I'm a "newbie" to file sharing and downloading, etc... When the Limeware basic screen comes up on my monitor, I can type my search query info in, "but" the search button is not "highlighted"? showing as an option, so I can't click the search button at all????? At the top of the screen it says "Enabling Open Information Sharing. (Disconnected/No files available)" I have no files to share because it won't let me access any files to download to share. I allready configured my windows xp firewall to accept Gnutella, "STILL NOTHING"???Can anyone help me? PLEASE

Instead of clicking on the 'search' button try hitting Enter on your keyboard. That's what I usually do. Let us know how it goes.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Hightlighted? Why would it be highlighted? As CyberStalker said, you either press the search button or hit the enter key on your keyboard after typing in the search info.

Ah, I get it. lol You're not connected! You need to wait for LW to settle before using it. But it sounds like a firewall or something is preventing you connecting properly.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Sorry it took so long to back to you. I'm working 13hrs a day this past week. I'll answer the questions I can. And thanks for help!!!

1-windows XP
2- I already followed the firewall configuration, so tha't done.
3-RAM ??? Not a clue
4-Disk space, again Not a clue
5-DSL
6-Modem and router brand and #'s, again I don't know. I'm new at all this, p.c stuff.
7-connecting from home
8-LW version 3.0.2 was working, before I updated to the new version offered. That's when everything went to S- - - ! I uninstalled the new version and went back to the 3.0.2 and it doesn't work any more. "By highlighted" search button, I meant you can tell when a button is giving you the option to choose it by the way it looks. Prominent or black for a usable button and then the shaded, pale grey "not highlighted" when it's not an option. Does this make sense??? I tried as you suggested, hitting the enter key on my keyboard instead of the search button on LM. Still, nothing.
9-ISP Bellsouth
10-Not sharing the connection
11-Did the test http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It said the test "worked".

I was searching around and found this post. I'm having the exact same problem. The search box appears, but it is not a 'live' link, I click on it, nothing happens. I'm a newcomer, haven't been able to do anything yet. Sure would like to be able to search for something...anything...thanks...

I would love to help you, handyloon, but no one has posted anymore suggestions as to how to fix this problem, since my first post. If you get any help, please feel free to share it with me. I've had LW for over a year and have as yet not downloaded a single thing. Good luck to you....jontue22

If not, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Make sure your maximum searches is set to "at least" one. Tools>Options>Searching>Limit

I've noticed alot of people are having problems searching. When they type something in and hit search the search window turn grey and nothing appears. I also had this problem after i changed my multiple searches from 5 to 9999999. When I put it back to 5 everything was fine. I also had the same problem a few days before and to fix it i just hit restore defaults in the options menu. Hope it helps those who need it. Mark
