I'm not very internet ports and connection saavy so small words and possibly use of screen shots to answer me would be helpful.

I looked through a few of the ports related threads and felt ignorant and dumb... so I'm hoping the answer to my question wasn't in them.

I am on a very picky college's network and their firewall is VERY picky about filtering things. They filtered out use of file sharing programs because people were using it to d/l porn...

Whenever I need to get around the firewall to see a site (most art sites are blocked because of nudity) I can open up AOL LAN and get around the firewall - is there any way to tell limewire to connect through AOL LAN instead of straight through the LAN connection??

or, what should I change in the settings that will most likely get around the block in the college's firewall??

if I am in anyway in the wrong catagory or am asking something I shouldn't I apologize, as I mentioned I feel very ignorant in this area...

I hardly use AOL to be honest, I fully agree with AOHELL ...

but if I can use it to get around my college's firewall then so be it.

I used to use it through dial up but have decided no one calls my apt phone - everyone calls my cell so I got rid of my phone service

AOL is good in short bursts but if one must depend soley on it for internet access I have a great pity for them

I dont trust AOL at all, even i never use it. I already know the Dark Side of AOL, very evil, below evil than Microsoft. It a good thing that Time Warner is about to let AOL go. Time Warner is a great cable company, but why need to own AOL? so now they going to let go

there is way to get around the firewall, it call a proxy.

Just get the aol ip adress that you have on your computer and then paste it on your p2p client connection option. make sure you have all the info of ip adress, with default gateway and subnet mask. if your AOL have SOCKS, then get SOCKS too

Proxy is just full of ip address that anyone is free to use. Sometime most of the free proxy is taken, so some company charge you to get a better free proxy.

For AOL part, i have no freaking clue how to get the ip address. If you connect to AOL right now, then go to Start on the desktop, then click RUn, type "cmd" (XP) pr "command" (older windows) without the quotes then enter. then the DOS screen will appear. Then type "ipconfig" without the quote, then enter.. VOLIA!! your ip address should appear with default gateway and the subnet mask.

If the ip address is 0.0.0.0 then i dont know how to get AOL's ip address. im sure one of the AOLer is still lurking around in this forum should know

all righty... well I got the thing to open once I used command (using winXP) and now I'm looking in limewire. where to I put the IP in? I don't see what you mentioned

Oh dear...... this is not what i expected. LimeWire Proxy is different than other.

But there is way, just dail up your AOL and connect to AOL, then fire up your LimeWire. LimeWire should use AOL ip address since it tend to connect directly to the internet. SInce oyu still have AOL signed on, then LimeWire can use AOL's ISP to connect to the internet without a problem
