Are you talking about using Limewire (LW)? If yes, then ignore the LW playlist you see in iTunes. That's simply a playlist & the actual songs still remain in your LW downld folder. What you need to do is add the song files to iTunes music library. To do this see the many techniques here How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes)

And to access your downld folder easily & quickly: Go to your LW Library window, select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link)
The default location of the LW downld folder is: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared

Check your iTunes Music Folder. Search & find it on your computer. See what the folder size is. You may need to re-add the files from that folder. You could open the music folder, select all the folders & drag & drop them to the iTunes Library icon at the top of the playlists whilst iTunes is open.

If the iTunes music folder is empty. Then you may need to get the iPod files copied back to your computer & add them to iTunes from there. See the above link in my first post & look for reverse iPod near the lower posts of that thread.

(I have been getting the impression that with apple adding different extras to their newer version iTunes that some of them are causing problems / side issues. Your iTunes music list might have been corrupted.)

The most recent versions of itunes is no longer compatible with Limewire. If you have a version that works keep using it. Not only that, Apple made the itunes library incompatible with previous versions. What I do now is load the Limewire files onto Media Monkey and then batch load them to itunes.

I love my two 80GB ipods but Apple bytes!!!

I already have the version prior to the newest one with genius. I don't want an Apple program searching through my files.

I hope this helps someone.

iTunes won't play .wma files as they are, but will convert .wma files to whichever format you've selected within your iTunes preferences.
In iTunes go Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing. There's a dropdown menu next to 'Import Using'...there you can choose which file type you want iTunes to convert the .wma files to.

If you want your songs in iTunes in .mp3 format, just download .mp3 files rather than .wma files
wma files aren't the most trustworthy anyway - check out this link:What you should know about WMA Files

The file will have lost some of it's data when it was originally converted to .wma format...if you convert that same file to .mp3 then it's going to lose more data during the conversion. So the quality of the file's going to be even more reduced.

Are you sure that the files in your iTunes library are .wma?? Right click on a file name > get info. You'll see the file format there.

Which version of iTunes are you using (to find out, in iTunes click on 'help' > about iTunes - the version number will show)?

ATM I'm back with iTunes 6 but AFAIK iTunes 7 was the same (ie converting .wma to other formats when adding files to the library). I don't know about iTunes 8, haven't used it.
