Bad luck about the sound sync - happens on occassions, usually when the AVI has been badly encoded. It can be fixed, but usually not worth the trouble.

Dvdsanta is an excellent converter and the trial version is free and has no time limits, you just have a demo message at the top of the screen, but if you zoom in it goes....
It is very user friendly as well and you can choose between PAL and NTSC as well, heres the link check it outhttp://www.dvdsanta.com

I've come across a few videos that had the audio track set a
bit ahead and timecoded to give the file a bit of a cushion for
slower computers to keep the sound in sync. Unfortunately,
some player software is unable to detect the timing tweak
and plays the audio as it is found instead of as it is timecoded.

Media Player Classic has the option to adjust the timing, so
try playing the files with that. VLC has similar capabilities too.

I have had sound sync issues with DVDsanta before, but only AVI to mpeg, not Mpg to Mpeg. Thats why I changed to DivXtoDVD. I have not used it for Mpg to Mpeg for a while, coz I prefer WinAVIvideoconverter, because of its trimming function.

DivXtoDVD should have a green bar that moves across as it converts (it may appear not to move for a big file) but it should have a progressing frame count at the bottom.

I dunno how much WinAVIvideoconverter is (I would be breaching forum rules to tell you how I got my copy ), I vaguely remember it is worth around $60US, but that could be wrong.

It is very simple to use. Download it and try it, it has a demo version (puts a logo on your video from memory)
