Default AVI to DVD I really don't understand

Hi all,

I am very new to this and having been recommended by several friends, I finally decided to take the plunge and get limewire.

I have downloaded several video's, but cannot change them to a format I can actually watch them in. Ideally I would like to put them on a disc and pop them in the DVD player. What program do I need to do this?

Please, please bear in mind that a fish has more technological knowledge than me, and please be gentle with me. I know it can be frustrating when trying to explain to someone who doesn't know where to begin.

Any help you can give, I would be grateful for. I have searched the forum to see if this topic is covered, but to be honest, if it is, the answers are so complicated it may aswell be in japanese!

Thanks

Default AVI to DVD ... also does anyone know about the Acceleration Patch

I found the same thing when I started, the best program I found and the easiest to use is DVD Burninx xpress, it's not free but you can download it try it and then purchase. anyone can use it, it's very easy... dvd-burning-express.com
Also after a bit of research I found that the newer DVD players now support AVI format so I purchased one of those 2.

QUestion: has anyone used the Limewire Acceleration Patch? does it work?

It is a free download from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Burning, which is putting on to disc, will require you to have a disc burner (a special type of CD player built in to the computer or plugged into it, and a programme for burning like Nero or DVD Santa. A search of the forums for these subjects will give you huge ammounts of information, as you have found, but using those two terms will narrow the search down, and the programmes come with full instructions. Many on the forums will guide you gently if you need them to
I am new to this as you could tell. I have downloaded the VLC programme and I have the .avi file. Does anyone have step by step instructions from here? I also have Nero Vision Express 2SE

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for you help so far. I am able to watch the movie on the computer using videolan. I now want to burn it onto a dvd using Nero. Do I go into Neroexpress or Nero? And do I choose DVD? and where from there? I'm getting lost in it all. I really need step by step instructions as I don't understand most of what I am reading in the forum. Can you help?

Thanks

OK here goes I will try to be as gentle as possible here.
1. open nero vision express and select make dvd video from the top icon.
2. click on add files from the top right corner and slect the file it is you require to burn. or more than one file ect.
3. these files will now load to the screen, if the movie is 1 part you can click next or if it is two parts you need to merge the files. dont worry this is easy. press cntrl and a and the files should be highlighted. In the bottom left corner there is 3 icons the top to re-name the files the middle to merge and the bottom to remove. click the middle these files now become one movie. click next to proceed this will take you to the menu screen.
4. Menu's. Ok to begin with siply click on one of the default ones and add the name when you get better you can animate this and add clips from the movie ect. by clicking edit menu you really need to play around with this to figure it out but the buttons are self explianitory. click next.
5. A menu preview screen will appear. click next.
6. you are now ready to burn your movie at the top right there is a select device icon select the dvd burner. go down to burn options and select burn at once, determine max speed and write.

OK click burn and you have your movie!!

P.S. before you burn you should click on more go to video options and select the format region you need(i.e usa ntsc uk PAL ect.) click dvd video and select the speed ect high quality very slow super extended play very fast but can be very poor if you dont have an audio plug-in.

dont think ive missed anything so enjoy your movies

hope this helps
