transfering from an old hard drive We have a hard drive full of old pictures and music files and software on a computer we dont use anymore after it became so bogged down with spyware and viruses it would barely work. I have an external hard drive I can plug into the usb and remove any files I still want, but how do I go about this without transfering any of the corruption onto my new, clean hard drive? |
Check your system using any of these programs (I reckon using all of them): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/(free) http://www.grisoft.com(good free AVG) http://www.ewido.com(>>now called AVG Anti Spyware<< free 30 day trial -the best in my opinion) http://www.ccleaner.com/download/(free) Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) I would start with the CCleaner, just to make your old computer run a bit faster. Then go hard core and use the AVG Anti Spyware, afterwards the AVG Anti Virus and then, just to make sure, AdAware and Spybot. In between do always reboot after each cleaning process.... And when you're done with the first round, use AVG Anti Virus on more time, just to be on the save side....them you can start to transfer your files... :Smilywais: |
I installed everything but the avg spyware detector and ran them all. They started finding **** before hey were even done installing! Now ive run every program twice but something weird is still happening. Just about every time I type a web page into firefox another page comes up instead telling me to DOWNLOAD "WINANTIVIRUS" NOW! OR RUN "pcturbopro" TO MAKE YOUR COMPUTER GO FASTER AND SAFER! What gives with these anyone know?:bangh: Other than that thanx the programs really did a good job cleaning this up and breathing some life back into an old machine. |
The AVG Anti Spyware is, as I've already mentioned, the best. And although it comes with a trial version, after the trial is finished you'll still be able to use and update it (at least the Spy signatures). So I'd definitely give it a try... If you can't get rid of it go here and get some free computer help: http://norbiesworld.co.uk/computerhelp :Smilywais: |
