Burning DVDs

I'm using Nero Smartstart to burn dvd's. They are in MPG and AVI formats. I did my first burn today and it will play on the computer, but not my dvd player. Do I have to convert the format?

Probably......you can do so using this free Converter called Super Converter......convert them to VOB DvD Compliant:

Just want to make sure I understand this much...if I am burning a .avi file it needs to be converted. I am using Nero 6 does this program automatically convert?

As far as I understand it, Nero does encode the file, though I do not think it does convert it.......(maybe it does)......from my personal experience (I'm using Nero 7), I always convert the files to VOB Compliant and then burn them, so I don't have any problems with picture and sound synchronication, which I've hearde some people complaining about....

The Super Converter converts the files quite fast and with VOB Compliant Nero doesn't bother anymore to encode the file, it burns it right away....

Hi can you help me, i am using Nero Start Smart and it will not let me burn as they r too big..anychance you know how to make them smaller to fit. Also how to set it up so i can see if i did it right..muchly appreciated Thanks

What file type is it that you try to burn?? A movie or a game..??

you didn't mention what version of Nero you use...AFAIK, its only v7 that has all the needed codecs preloaded into the program, if yur using v6 or earlier, you would need to install the needed codecs....

I for one have not had one single valid video file fail to convert to DVD format using v7

What version exactly do you use. I am having many problems with Nero 7. On every update they just get worse.

The problem is that I lost the Backup disk for the last version that worked properly, and have gone over to using SUPER to convert. And super has some really annoying option where you have to choose both aspect ratio and Video scaling. Also you can't do two pass encodes with it. Kinda like it otherwise. Very user friendly.

Not have to, but can choose......it also come with an built in G-Spot-kinda program to check on the file stats.....

I've just convereted some 15 Star trek part over night and then burnt them with Nero 7 taking each around 3 min. No encoding from Nero, just flat burning...

Guess, it seems a matter of choice.

I downloaded and installed Super, but I have absolutely no idea where to place all the settings. A little more help would be greatly appreciated
