Default films to dvd

hey guys! i know this is quite possibly the completely wrong forum but i came here cos it said advanced users come here and i need some serious help!!!

basically, i've downloaded films...great!!... but i want to watch them from the comfort of my sofa therefore i'd like to burn them to a blank dvd. this is within my 'expertise' on computers but unfortunately no dvds i use work with my dvd player. i've used dvd rw etc and recently dvd ram cos that's what it says on my player but even that won't work. is there a trick/unlock thing i could use or would the cd writer i bought ages ago help me in any way? (i don't know how to use the cd writer so if i need that could you plz give a couple of simple instructions for it!)

i'm getting kind of desperate now as you can see cos i've spent a lot of money on these blank dvds that don't work...and i'm even posting random threads in places that have nothing to do with it.

PLEASE HELP!!!

There is no trick, if your DVD writer won't burn DVDs as promised then phone the maker's helpline. There could be a technical problem or fault that has to be looked into or repaired.

You have not said what make or model your DVD writers is or what burning software you have tried to use but your question seems to indicate that your machine is simply not working.

If you know your machine works then come back with more details about it.

Default more details

hey thanks for getting back.. i burn my dvds straight from my computer onto a blank dvd. i was hoping my cd/dvd player (hi fi) would then be able to play it. but no matter what type of dvd i use (w/rw/ram) my dvd player says ''this type of dvd cannot be played please insert a different one'' or something similar.

my dvd player says 'dvd ram' so i thought the blank dvd ram discs would have worked but they don't. i can burn dvds from my computer (apart from rams apparently) to discs but i just can't watch them on my player. maybe i should buy a new dvd player that plays burned dvd discs? but that's expensive and i was hoping to avoid that. thanx ahead for any future replies....

Some expensive dvd players won't play burned dvd's, even tho it says it plays dv-r, +r, etc. The $20-$30 ones work good tho. I use the pal format now, but I used to use ntsc which worked most of the time, but not all the time. There's some freeware programs out there that can convert to dvd format.
