Problems playing mpg movies

Using windows media player 11 in xp professional. Each time I try to play a movie downloaded in limewire I get the following error "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help" Tried everything including re-installing the sound drivers, etc. as suggested by web help. Anyone experience the same error or have a suggestion how to correct. Thanks.

It may be a codecs issue. Try this player & see if it has same problems: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)
VLC is a highly reliable player & has its own built in codecs, no need to download extras for it. ;) Try it! :)

But it may be a video or sound card setting.
