Sounds like a CODEC problem.
(Well, from what you say I guess it 'Looks' like a CODEC problem !)

But, we need more info from you about your-

Operating System
The Player you are trying to use (Hopefully not the LW 'built-in player !!!)
Any 'new' players you may have recently installed...
