Smile mp3 names - Tagging and Renaming .mp3 files - How can I do it easily ?

After spending a week on the net trying to find a program that will simply rename files that are still able to be played.
I have 100's of files showing the .mp3 extension but thay don't have a name. I have checked the tags of these files but I haven't found a program that will find the actual name of the file.

Are you using Windows? I know of a good mac one for the purpose.
iTunes for example does not always show all tag types and information.
I'd have thought winamp would. But I am not sure.

Hello, I am just a housewife trying to organise my collection of mp3 and wav. About 15,000 at the moment..it is really hard for me as I am just learning this stuff. I thought it may be a good idea to talk to people on the net who knows what they are doing.

You could try using SourceForge.net: massid3lib - Mp3 Tag Tools

It is from Sourceforge which is a group of people developing free and mostly very very good software.

Or Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v1, ID3v2, APEv2)

There are many others available but these two seem to be among the best!
And, remember to first practice on COPIES of your files whenever using any new software that alters your files!

You might want to have a look at SourceForge.net: Files also because it does some interesting things with changing and renaming many files at the same time - in case you ever have any problems with a virus changing the .mp3 extension name to something else like .exe or whatever. Hope that never happens to you!

Wait... There's another one !

A blast from the past... Thanks to those nifty folks at OldVersions and Yahoo (I think ?) you can get - for free - MusicMatch Jukebox !

NOT the new money type version...
A far better version that really works.
Main reason I am saying this is because anyone who remembers using the Super-Tagging feature of the versions 10 and earlier can tell you that it was magic... Really easy to use and an enormous database. Album art, lyrics, 31 & 32 tagging, etc., etc.

Now the old versions are released for free.
Whodathunkit ?

Check it out > MusicMatch Jukebox - OldVersion.com

I'd go for the versions

10.00.2058

10.00.4033

Or, try the version 8 !

Try all of them til you find the one you like with the best tagging ease.
And be sure to check out OldVersion... Loads more goodies.

Hi again...

Not sure why you wish to use fffdb unless it's strictly for movies...

For music, use...

> Gracenote

(Gracenote is the 'new' name for cddb.com)

You should not need a 'proxy' !

The above mentioned database is normally included as the default database search source in the majority of 'good' programs, be they players or rippers or file format converters.

Hope it helps !

C U later !
