The Team Xolox coders don't and wont add in any spyware, kazaa's does and has. though there are hacked forms of kazaa that dont have any spyware on them.

Yes, kazaa has quite a bit of spyware. It comes with cydoor (or whatever the hell its called), which gathers info about you and your searches etc.

However, the main concern of Kazaa is a program it comes shipped with called BDE. BDE allows your CPU resources to be utilized by the company that shipped it (forget what its called). A hacker could easily take advantage of this.

The best defense is to uninstall kazaa, run ad-aware, and then run BDE/B3D killer to get rid of BDE.

Cool

Or to use Kazaalite without this crap...

Apparently some of the users at www.cnet.com have found an even better solution. Continue using the regular version of Kazaa, but download the Kazaa spyware remover, takes all the banner ads and spyware out of the program, and leaves it use-able. I think a poster/reviewer there mentioned they had faster download times too, but don't quote me for sure.

Um, I can't remember exactly the program, it was for Win98 and up, in Utilities though. Good luck.

Ok if you think it easier to donwload Kazaa "and" a remover than kazaalite (this version is also without ads)... one spyware remover is ad-aware but you need also a "dummy" file that kazaa works... - sure this way is easier!

About the speed... sometimes people see ghosts do you believe them? Explain me how should this be possible? You remove only the Spyware and ads in both versions, so you have (almost) equal version... but you changed nothing what has something to do with the speed - I am curious!

Btw cnet doesn´t offer kazaalite perhaps this is why they found a "better" solution?

Morgwen,

I have no idea, I'm a Xolox devotee. I just figure if e-body is gonna carp and moan and about freeware, well then they might as well make it as difficult as possible and try and strip the Kazaa program while they're at it.

When it comes to the MP#'s and such, I'm still so dorky I haven't figured out how to get them coverted so I can put them on a disc, so what does that tell you? I was just sharing what I had read

I am also no fasttrack expert, but the kazzalite version is the regular version without all annoying crap, so there is no need to remove the ads yourself... but of course you can do it if you prefer!

Default Speaking of Kazaa...

I'm not sure if Kazaa Lite is really faster but it does allow songs at a greater quality than 128, which is the cap on Kazaa (so I hear and it seems to be true.)

If you are running the regular version of Kazaa: There is a .dll you can get to replace the Cydoor file (cd_clnt.dll) if you just want to run Kazaa sans spyware. However, you'll need to keep the original version of this file around also or you can't do an uninstall.

I think BDE stuff is bundled as optional software now.

You know, I could swear Cnet used to have Kazaa Lite available for download on their own site at one time. It's not even in their index server anymore now. I wonder what's up with that?

Its obvious, kazaa its not free (you pay with information) and kazza lite is a hacked version... so they had to remove it or they risk being sued. I heared also from other sites which got in trouble - money rules the world!
