a little bit disappointed about Xolox users

I'm using Xolox since 3 days. 10 trys per day average and 1/2 hit over all. This is poor!
My dear Partners closed their programs in the middle of my download. I thought this is called "File sharing"
Lets get back to Bearshare!

Moak October 6th, 2001 10:52 AM

funny people, so you think Bearshare is different... hehe, find out what is the meaning of the word "gnutella", funny people. When you kick a brother next time , make sure he's not married with your sister... hm, that means you... whatever, forget it.

can't connect with bearshare; find this site to be excellent so far. have not been able to find more obscure titles, but for the every day stuff; very good.

Xolox is the best program made yet. it needs a few improvements but it is good
Please encourage more users to use xolox
so then theres heaps more files
oh yeah ,and please share as many files as u can

more users

As I've said before, you could get a bigger user base if you would submit XoloX to http://download.cnet.com/ , otherwise known as download.com, all you have to do is scroll to near the bottom of the screen and click 'Submit a file'. You must of course be the program developer to do this. Unless you don't think your application is ready for more users, I highly suggest you submit it to all the servers you can think of. It's FREE and most of them step you thru the process with little pain.

Another one is hotfiles.com

Give it more time

I thik XoloX is still in it's beta phase... they have some issues to resolve, a help file to make, and stability to prove before throwing it at a few thousand more users.

Moak October 9th, 2001 03:37 AM

and a little bit more feedback from the developers would be great IMHO.

Unregistered October 9th, 2001 01:20 PM

I agree but....

I understand XoloX is in Beta (Even though it doesn't say so.) but I still feel that if, say, 5 - 10k more people were to start using this program it would help spread the word, get the program running on a ****load of other computers, and help track down any problems that need fixing. This is why you release beta software. Even Microsoft does this with their software, and ALL of it sucks. Well, I have to say that WinXP seems very stable as of now. Anyway, as long as they put the word 'Beta' next to the name, most people will understand if it's got some problems, but at least it would get more people interested in the software. (As we are.)

Besides, I know that XoloX is ready for at least WinXP as I have had zero problems using it for days at a time. The only exception is when I first installed it I had to get a new hostslist.txt file to get it connected, but that was IT. I think if they fix that issue in 1.13 it will be ready enough.

"Even Microsoft does this with their software, and ALL of it sucks. Well, I have to say that WinXP seems very stable as of now. "

why are you using it then? there is Solaris 8 (Free), Linux (Free)
FreeBSD (free). Why would you choose to pay $200 for an OS that Sux? Oh I forgot, you probably stole it...

Not all MS products suck. people just say that because it is the done thing.

I take each program on its own merit, as they are developed by different programmers anyway.

Imagine if you were the programmers of Xolox. You have a list of 10 things (conservative) you want to implement. You also have a list of bugs to fix. Do you really think that they could handle a flood of bugs, flames, etc?

BTW.. they arent even charging you for this product.

Xolox is a great app. Nice and simple. I commend the programmers, testers, responsible users and others involved in this.

lighten-up

Actually, I didn't steal WinXP, it was installed on my computer when I got it. As for linux and the other free operating systems, they aren't any better even if they are free. You know it IS possible to think that a program sucks and still use it! I hate my POS car too, but I sure as hell am NOT going to walk everywhere just cause I hate my car.

That's just the way it is....

One file I just recently got 600meg zip took over week to get, the first night I started it the next morning I had about 30%, I was very impaitent so i deleted it and started over only to stop again at 30%. Did that a couple times then just said the hell with it and left there, about a week later woke up one morning and it was done! Yippi :)

Checked it out, wasn't what I was looking for so I deleted it again. ;)

Life's a bitch

I should mention that there was about 2 GIGs of files I did get :D

I really don't understand everyone's problem with download speeds. I just downloaded about 400 megs in a little under 30 minutes this morning. Faster than I could ever had accomplished through Morpheus.

UnSpoknOne October 22nd, 2001 07:39 AM

So you got lucky

I have had Xolox for over a week now, and not one download not big or small has downloaded fast at all, you are probably one of the lucky ones to find someone with hi bandwidth. I think almost every other user here has a phoneconnection, when the program as strictly made for hi broadband user. I think Xolox should kick out all 56k users and under. Its not worth downloadinga 700 meg file for a whole week only to find out that the file wasnt exactly what you wanted. That really ****es me of.

Unregistered October 22nd, 2001 02:14 PM

agreed

56k is really slow and it IS very upsetting to wait so long and have it not be the file you wanted. But we need the numbers, so kicking out all 56kers would be a big mistake.

At least people that share should make an effort to name their files with more details like I do. (file name - version - demo - freeware - retail - with code - with keygen - size that it should be in bytes for very large files to ensure that they are not downloading a broken file - etc.) for movie files you should include full title - whether it's complete or part of a larger file - size that it should be in bytes for same reason above - season number/episode number - encoding method - quality - etc.) Many people do this now, but not as many I'd like. So till more people do this, only download if you're fairly certain that what you're getting seems to be what you are after.

As for those people that rename porn videos to popular stuff like The Matrix, STOP PHUCKING DOING THAT!!!

Mordib October 24th, 2001 04:47 AM

I agree that the download speeds are in general pretty slow, but on the other hand, if you do have a broadband conection getting 10-15 diiferent file downloading (well at least queing) and leaving it for a day seems to be very successful.
Also ive not found very few of the things ive looked for, even the more remote titles. Apart from IRC i condsider this the client that ive been praying for, and just think, it is only likely to get better!
