ZoneAlarm incompatibilty

If you use ZoneAlarm and find your system resources getting burned up fast when you launch Xolox, try shutting of ZoneAlarm. This solved the problem for me.

I have asked Zone Labs to investigate, but no response yet...

Yea, I had the same problem. When I had Zone Alarm up, my system died, but when I shut down Zone Alarm, it works near perfect now.

I'm also using zone alarm... my system works fine... no glitches, hiccups or violent reactions... and my system is not a top of the line hyperfast monster... I'm just worried if I'm able to share my files correctly.... since I installed XoloX..."zonealarm" has been blocking an average of 500 accesses a day... up from my previos average of 200 blocks within a 24hr period.

blocked traffic

Whenever you disconnect from the network, you just dissapear, but your IP is still in people's host caches and query hits that were sent out may still be on someone's display. All this means that even after you are gone, people will try to connect to you for a while, and try to request files, even though you're not connected ot the network.

Not only...

ZA is alerting me every few seconds during I am "connected", caused by mistakes or portscans etc. - this is "normal" for the gnet!

Sometimes I have more than 1000 alerts...

ZAP gets confused now and again.

I use ZA Pro on a win2k pro box and only have problems once in a while. Not in the resource area tho, I seemed to have escaped that little malfunction. ZAP seems to get confused as to what should and should not be allowed to happen every now and again.

Xolox is not the only app that gets hit, Front Page 2002, Outlook 2002, Dreamweaver, Opera....ect. Everything can be going great, then WHAM, ZAP stops allowing connections to and from. Same thing happens on another box with pretty much the same set up except for 98SE vs Win2KP.

Don't really know why, I just shut down and restart ZAP and everything is back to the way it should be. The only time this gets to be a headache is during the night time dl's and ul's. I'll forget to shut down ZAP and go to bed waking up to a bunch of 1% complete files.

And don't expect Zlabs to be to forthcoming with suggestions or help with this. Last time (and there are 2 reasons I call it the "last time") I called Zlabs with a problem (I actually paid for my copy) I had to talk to someone that was saying "Thank you, drive through." and "you want; uhh, fries or somethin with that?" the week before.

Hello!

When ZA ask you if you want to allow the program to connect...
just check the option "remenber..." next time ZA will not ask!

You can change it in the ZA program, too (under programs!).

ZAP Permissions

Yep, been dere done dat. Checked all the doh! factor stuff.

When I wrote "Everything can be going great, then WHAM, ZAP stops allowing connections to and from" thats just it. ZAP just stops things from happening. I'll be publishing my my stuff left and right, then without doing anything different....full stop. I'll have Outlook up and running checking mail automatically, 3 - 4 hours later:

Task 'Work (Outgoing Only) - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'Unable to find the e-mail server. Please verify the server information in your account properties.'

Check ye 'ole ZAP alert icon and wow it's flashing letting me know that Outlook was prevented from connecting to the server. Sometimes I get the 'Temporarily' not allowed sometimes the 'Prevented' mesage.

Same thing with Frontpage, IRC Clients, FTP Stuff, and Xolox; running fine and doing thier thing for hours on end, then nuthin.

I'm sure it's one of the services/processes I have running (just haven't taken the time to isolate it) since I have yet to hear about these symptoms from anyone else.

One day I'll get sick of it and do the ole process 'o elimination, but till the lazy gene gose back into remission I'll live with it.
