NO WAY....

Use the current Xolox version... it's the best!

Just block http requests to www.xolox.nl/info/ in your Firewall (Zonealarm) or Proxy (squid). In the current Xolox startpage is a expire-tag you have to block, then Xolox runs perfect.

PS: <!-- Expired Version --> <input value="Expired Version" type="hidden">

XOLOX IS NOT DEAD, IT'S STILL WORKS LIKE BEFORE !!!!!!!

When I started XoloX today (12/1) I got a box popup that says "Version Expired".
The download transfers started as normally.
But I couldn't download any file anymore.
I quit Xolox.

In my firewal Zonealarm I shutoff all internet connections.
Started Xolox again and turned off "Automaticly download and
install newer Xolox Versions".
Then I unlocked in Zonealarm the internet connections, so that Xolox could connect again to the Internet.
I didn't received the popup box anymore.

The download options was enabled and I started to download again.
It's very important that as much as many people try to use Xolox again.

Xolox works now like before.

In the current Xolox startpage is a expire-tag you have to block, then Xolox runs perfect. Two solutions:

1. Just block http requests to www.xolox.nl (194.109.6.83) in your Firewall (Zonealarm) or block www.xolox.nl/info/ in your Proxy (Webwasher, squid). Start Xolox... it works!

2. Another solution is to block DNS request. On Win9x it is usually C:\windows\hosts, on windows NT/2000 it is usually C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc.hosts (Use "search/find files/folders" on the start button to find the file 'hosts' with no extension). Once you locate the file, add the line below (all on one line by itself, then start Xolox):
127.0.0.1 www.xolox.nl

I redirected www.xolox.nl to localhost by editing my hosts file like you suggested. Works perfectly, thanks!

People are sharing again!

Yeah, ditto. Thanks guys. Long live unsupported Xolox.

P.S. It seems the announcement of the demise has prompted some users to hurriedly log on to d/l and share their files....bad news-good consequence.

xolox simplest work around

Just start xolox before you access internet...I am using it now.
Works fine.

Unregistered December 2nd, 2001 07:07 AM

Workaround

Yes. I was having trouble using the other workarounds described. I don't use firewall/proxy server, so couldn't block that way.

I tried modifying the host file in Windows several different ways described, but finally got it to work by last suggestion! Simple. Start the program before I plug in my cable connection and works great.

I'm still a little confused as to why modifying my host file didn't work, but this will suffice in the meantime.

You were talking about modifying the windows host file, not xolox host list, right?

-_-;

turning off autoupdate seem not working just in a day.

Unregistered December 3rd, 2001 03:53 AM

Oddly enough...

I got the 113 fixed version, works fine but I still have to start the program before I connect or I see a yahoo screen briefly about some page not found (probably that expired notification thingy)and then it the program hangs so bad nothing will move around on my screen and my computer starts to go into heaving spasms after which it promptly chokes to death. Luckily it can rise from the dead, though with some lost clusters. Maybe this is a lack of memory prob, I am going to go pick up a 256 mb card tommorow and slap it in and see what happens.

Here is a 3rd solution for computer experts:

3. Patch your old XOLOX.exe and create your own splashscreen. Take a HEX-editor and replace 'www.xolox.nl/info' with your homepage. Read every detail here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=&postid=18481

PS: When you have no XOLOX, use any gnutella client and serach for xolox :)

kitten_scot December 4th, 2001 09:05 AM

i've got the new "fixed" version to and it works fine on my comp (win 2K)i've had that screen once or twice but its never crashed and normally turns grey pretty quickly. so in other words its not the program

Unblock Xolox in Zonealarm

Hi, been reading the posts on how to keep xolox working. Can someone tell, in plain simple terms, a grey haired old wrinkly how
I block http requests to www.xolox.nl/info/ in Zonealarm.

At the moment I have xolox with Local & Internet and Allow server rights.

Confess I'm not sure that I fully understand what I'm reading on how to keep xolox working so any help would be much appreciated.

The simplest and easiest way “to keep Xolox working” is to use the crack.

1. Download the crack.
2. Right click on the “xoloxcrk.zip” file.
3. Left click on “Extract All…” (Or press the “A” key)
4. Click “Next”.
5. Click “Finish”.
6. Open the folder.
7. Double click on the “bluish XoloXCrk.exe file”.
8. Follow the instructions it gives.

If your copy of Xolox has been corrupted by auto update feature then you will need to download a fresh copy. You can download an old copy of “Xolox 1.12” and use the crack on it, or you can download a copy that has already been cracked called “Xolox 1.13”. After you open the freshly downloaded Xolox file, just put it (Xolox.exe) in your Xolox folder located at “C:\Program Files\XOLOX”, it replaces the “Xolox.exe” file that is already there.

No firewall needed, no ports or addresses to block, no cables or wires to disconnect.

You can find the files to download at this Link:
