Hi michwayne,

If your getting 6KB/s download speed with a dialup connection your right about where you should be. You probably have a 56k connection, that speed is in kilobits. Limewire shows speeds in kilobytes, they're 8bits to 1 byte, so a download speed of 6KB/s(Kilobytes) is equal to 48kb/s(kilobits). Some of your bandwith is used for overhead(messages it has to send back and fourth to get the file).

Try doing a couple speed tests to see what type of speeds you can expect:

I was tempted to say "get broadband" but you have asked a good question that deserves a proper response.

I would suggest that you try a utility called "TweakMaster", however you must understand that there are more obstacles on the internet that will slow down a dial-up connection, such as congestion, poor infrastructure, etc., far beyond any utilities ability to help speed it up.

However, give TweakMaster a go. TweakMASTER - The Supreme Internet Optimizer
