Hi michwayne, If your getting 6KB/s download speed with a dialup connection your right about where you should be. You probably have a 56k connection, that speed is in kilobits. Limewire shows speeds in kilobytes, they're 8bits to 1 byte, so a download speed of 6KB/s(Kilobytes) is equal to 48kb/s(kilobits). Some of your bandwith is used for overhead(messages it has to send back and fourth to get the file). Try doing a couple speed tests to see what type of speeds you can expect: Speed Test Internet Speed Test DSL Speed Test Broadband Speed Test Bandwidth Speed Test Broadband Speedtest on ZDNet UK Follow Grandpa's tips in this thread for setting up LW to work best with a dialup connection: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post175733

Mich I was tempted to say "get broadband" but you have asked a good question that deserves a proper response. I would suggest that you try a utility called "TweakMaster", however you must understand that there are more obstacles on the internet that will slow down a dial-up connection, such as congestion, poor infrastructure, etc., far beyond any utilities ability to help speed it up. However, give TweakMaster a go. TweakMASTER - The Supreme Internet Optimizer UK Bob |
