Hi Carldragon

The problem could be almost anything - how is the help so far?

If you believe it's a Limewire problem, you can send an email to "limenathan". There is a link for this, but I'm sorry I have never used it and don't know how to attach it.

Birdy, if you see this message could you please supply the link to Carl.

I have a few questions / suggestions. As I don't know your level of experience with PCs, please forgive me if some of what I say is trying to teach you to suck eggs.

1. Did you download Limewire from Limewire's site? There are a few 3rd party sites around illegally marketing inferior versions of Limewire.
2. If you are using the free version try uninstalling completely and downloading it again. Many problems can't be fixed - you just have to start again.
3. If you are having problems with the pro version you should be able to download the registered version again. I never needed to do this with my registered version.
4. The problem could be with your PC's protection systems, e.g. Firewall settings.
5. Try another free P2P application to check the search function. If this works correctly it should eliminate Windows as a potential problem.
6. Reinstalling it each time must be resetting something. I can't think of any user settings in Limewire that blocks searches, so I keep coming back to a faulty installation executable.
7. The installation file could have been damaged during the download or something running on your PC during the installation process could be interfering with it. Try closing everything you can during the install, especially scanners.

Hopefully somebody who has had a similar problem will read your post and supply the precise answer you need.

Please post the fix to your problem so others can benefit. Thanks.

Good luck.

Have a great day
I'm confused.

Are you using LW Pro? Are you having some problem with not being able to update/download Pro (this thread is about Pro issues)?? If you're a Pro user with current Pro benefits & are having trouble downloading a Pro installer, limenathan may be able to help. But if you're just having connection issues...no point PMing limenathan! Can you please let me know if there's a Pro issue at all?

carldragon, do you mean that LW will show search results straight after installation but next time you open it - no results?? Is your LW connected at all (green/blue connection bars in the bottom left corner)?? Does LW open normally, even if it can't connect/serach?? Please give some more info so that we can give you more specific help

If you're using basic (free) LW, try using the offline installer when you install LW. When you click to download LW, cancel the dialog box which pops up. Now use the option to download the offline installer.

If LW's not connecting, have a look at this thread for fixes to try. If nothing there helps, please post your system details (see thread for more info).

Hello from Thailand. Just started with this Limewire the last couple days, and enjoying it immensely. I purchased the LimeWire Pro, and after unsuccesfully searching FAQ's for a particular question/answer, I tried that E-mail route which I supposedly have access to, by virtue of this purchase. I was promptly told that my E-mail address was incorrect (or some such thing). My question was, how to download those jpg. entries, the ones with an image of stacked books?

The image of the stacked books will show up if WinRar is your default program for opening archive files...so the files with that icon are archive (compressed) files (eg .rar or .zip files). A jpeg file shouldn't show up with an archive icon.

I'd stay right away from those files - they may be infected. At the least, right click on the search result > advanced > lookup file with Bitzi. If other users have rated the file, you'll get some idea of it's content & quality. If the file has heaps of sources, but no Bitzi rating then avoid it. If you do decide to download anyway, make sure that you're using a good, up to date AV program & scan all files that you download, before you open them.

If you're having problems with Pro support, let us know when you bought Pro, how much you paid for it & which vendor shows up next to the purchase on your credit card statement.
