Smile Lost in Alabama

Out here in the sticks.
We are on Dialup. Two tin cans on a string. AT&T strung the hi-speed cable to the little crossing, three miles from my place, but its gonna be some phenominal price to get it out my country road. Too much for just 10 houses in a mile n' a half.

I have XP Home. A pretty new and quick PC, but the slowest internet in the world. 57.6 Kbps. About an Hour per song. Most the time the song does not load completly.

I'm hoping to find a way to load the LW program onto my Thumb drive and plug that into the Public Library's hi-speed internet down town. Anybody?

I'm retired. Old Board-swapper. I sure like some of the old music on the LW's Library though. It's the music of the days when we sang around the campfire in someone's back yard up in Seattle WA.
I hope that covered it. Anything else you need to know, just ask.

It's worth a try. However many library computers will not allow 'other' programs to run upon them. And even if it can, it may be firewalled which you have no control over.

I've got to move my music off the Win. Media player. They keep losing it and wont help at all.

If the LW program can run but will not connect. Some things you could try such as changing ports.

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewalls, change both listening & connection ports to one of the following: 80, 443, 427, 1111, or one between 49152 - 65535. Port 80 is what browsers use so it will not be blocked but might be reserved. Ports 427 & 427 I think are iTunes ports from memory. The highest ports are ones that are not reserved for specific purposes & are usually the last that isp's block.

However no doubt there will be a software firewall on the computer you will not have access to in order to allow LW full access. The library's router might also be an issue, not to mention their security systems.
