WierdAl is flying high
Default New User

I am new to this forum and having dificulty understanding where to post a new message and system specifications as indicated on the welcome page.

WierdAl

Below are my system specifications

Program and OS:
1.
Name and version of your Gnutella program? LimeWire 5.1.3
2. OS version? Windows XP
3. Is this a your 1st try at using the program or is this a new problem with an experienced user? I have used the program before to download video and music

Your computer:
4.
What firewalls you have? McAfee Antivirus internal firewall with Windows XP firewall turned off
5.
How much ram? 1 Gig
6.
Hard Disk space available? Do you have at least 100MiB of free HD space? 576 Gig Free on 1 TB
7.
What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? McAfee Antivirus internal firewall

Your Network Connection: (this information is mostly required for connection problems, but please supply connection type even if not a connection problem)
8.
Connection type? Cable
9.
Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola, Surfboard, SB 5120
10.
Where are you trying to connect from? Home
11.
Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast Cable
12.
What country are you living in? USA

Other information:
13.
Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes, through wireless router (Belkin N1 Vision, model F5D8232-4, v .1000) with this computer ported into one of the router jack. One other port is used to connect 2 other computers in the house through a Gigabit switch. We also have 3 laptop computers that connect wirelessly through the Belkin router.
14.
For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I have used Port Forwarding (PF Config), but my antivirus program keeps shutting it down and removing the executable file. I have since uninstalled the program. I am not quite sure how to enable UPnP.
15.
Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your program version or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? I have removed all versions of JAVA and plan to install the latest version when I find out what version is recommended.

Hi WierdAl,

Sorry, but I'm not sure exactly what problem you're having. Are you having a connection problem? If not then please let us know what your problem is. I'll assume it's a connection problem for now.

The latest Java update should be fine: Java Downloads for All Operating Systems - Sun Microsystems
Download the Windows offline installer. After downloading the installer, remove any other Java versions installed via Add/Remove Programs. Install the latest Java & then reboot your computer.

Check your router's manual to see whether it supports UPnP. If so then you'll need to log into your router & check to see whether UPnP is enabled (see the router's manual for details). Once UPnP's enabled within router config, go to LW's tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > firewall. Make sure that the button to use UPnP is checked. Click ok to save any changes.

This thread has other fixes for connection problems: If LW 5 Will Not Connect

If you're still stuck & need help with port forwarding, let us know

And for info about how to start a new thread, check out the link here: How to create a New Thread; Your First post .. how to start it
