Need help translating from English to Berlinisch German, and back, Please? Does anyone know of a free online low german (Berlinisch) translator? (from English to Berlinisch...Berlinisch to English) I met a lady from Berlin, while she was here in Texas. She now has gone back to Berlin. We would like to communicate by email, but the online German translators I've found are for other dialects of German than spoke in Berlin. Her English is very poor...and my German(of any kind, especially Berlinisch) is "nonexistent". It would help us both, if I could find one...Please? |

Thank you...but that is one of the translators that does not translate to Berlinische (as I mentioned). German spoken in Berlin is a different dialect. I have tried sending her messages translated by it, and she told me, in person while she was here) that it was "very bad". I need a Berliner to help me translate to and from Berlinische. Thank you though...but I want the translations to be easy for us both to understand. dS |

interesting... perhaps things have changed, but I was taught German (vier jahren im hochschule) by a Berliner and was told that it was not a dialect rather a thing of pronunciation, similar to the way Yankees talk differently than a person from the Deep South...

Thanks, Lord of the Rings I like that Babalon 8 program...but you have to translate one word at a time...Way too time intensive. I need to translate full email text copied into a translator. Like This from her: -------------------------- Hallo Daddyseal, wie geht es dir? Was hällst du davon? Ich bin gut in Deutschland angekommen. Ich vermisse die Sonne, aber es ist schön wieder meine Lieben um mich zu haben. Gut, dass du mich an das Reiten erinnerst. ich möchte hier gern weiter reiten. Ich hoffe ich finde Zeit. Bis bald. Although a translator translates it into this...which *I* can understand. It doesn't help me send emails to her in Berlinisch ----------------------------------------- Hello Daddyseal, how are you? It is not meant bad, but I must work much time on the PC and do not write back therefore not each day. In my spare time I ignore completely gladly my mailbox and answer only with important things immediately. It would be by the way really nice, if you could write on English. German grammar is too with difficulty for most programs and it understands not much, of which, which you would like to say me. I can answer further in German language. What hällst you of it? I arrived good at Germany. I miss the sun, but beautifully again my love are to be had around me. Well that you remind me of riding. I would like to ride here gladly further. I hope I find time. Until soon. ------------------------------------ See, it is a "little off", especially near the bottom part of her message. And apparently is much, much worse when I send her English translated to German emails...with the traslators I've found! Maybe she speaks and writes "Middle German"?? HELP...?? Yes, Lord of the Rings I completely agree with every point you made in your terrific answer. It does seem odd to me that there is a difference between the translators I've tried...on the very same German reply that I get from her. The Babalon 8 has cool features, but seems to do the worse job of translating and getting her "meaning". So, I use both BabelFish and again with SYSTRAN. Between the two, I get a pretty good idea of what she writes me. Thanks for your help, friend Danke für Ihre Hilfe, Freund |

Another to throw on the list is http://www.stars21.com/translator/ which has a wide range of language translations. If it does not have the translation it seems to seek another site with a translation. For a couple other languages, I've found using this one seems to do better than both systran and yahoo babel fish. I am not sure about german though. |
