Hello Everyone I'm excited that I found this website. I'm very new to all of this and I haven't looked through the forums for some answers to questions that I have. But what I'd really like is to download music for my Ipod as well as burn Cd's. I downloaded Limewire 5.6.2 last night and running Windows 7 with DSL. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon since I really now nothing about this stuff. I will be getting into the forum now to try and answer two questions I already have. Do I need to download an application to play and burn the music i find on Limewire? If so, suggestions of your favorites would be very appreciated. And the music I downloaded already came with a warning that they needed to be check for viruses. Is there an app for that? and is that a real concern. Thank you, bedelman |

Hi Bedelman I would just like to add a few words of warning, hopefully, before you start downloading from the gnutella network. 1) Always check all files you download with an AV scanner, some of them (well, quite a lot really) are disguised viruses, which could wreck your PC. 2) Do not, under any circumstances, download any compressed files, e.g zip, rar, pdf, etc, it's a good 99% chance that they are viruses, worms or some other form of malware. 3) There are a lot of false files out there so be wary and do not abandon your common sense because that is the thing that will protect you on a potentially hostile and deceitful network. 4) Always keep your computer protection up to date, i.e. your anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and malware blocker (stops unauthorised software communicating with dodgy web-sites without you knowing). OK, once you are prepared you can enjoy using and adding to the gnutella network. UK Bob |
